David Duchovny Says Scientologists Tried to Recruit Him at a Friend's Wedding

David Duchovny is getting candid about a time where Scientology allegedly tried to recruit him.

The X-Files actor discussed the incident during an interview with The Daily Beast.

“They made a play for me,” David recalled, adding that he was attending a wedding at the time. “I did squeeze the cans and I did a session on the E-meter, and I realized immediately, because they’re asking very personal questions, that they were gathering information that I didn’t want to give out to a stranger.”

But despite the “auditing,” he said the “session didn’t go well.”

“I didn’t play by the rules,” he explained, “and I never went back.”

David was at Melrose Place star Jason Beghe’s wedding when it happened.

Jason was a Scientologist at the time, but David says his friend wasn’t trying to recruit him.

“He only ‘recruited’ me in the sense of saying, ‘This is great, and I think you should try it,’ not anything harder than that,” he said. Jason ultimately walked away from the church.

The actor added that he believes Scientology “drains” its members “financially.”
