Jussie Smollett Sentenced to 150 Days in Jail, Declares He's 'Not Suicidal' While Being Taken Away (Video)

Jussie Smollett has been sentenced to 150 days in jail and he is making sure people know that he will not do anything to himself while in custody.

The 39-year-old Empire actor was previously found guilty on charges that he staged a hate-crime attack against himself and his sentencing happened on Thursday (March 10) in Chicago, Ill.

After the judge revealed the full sentencing, which included more than just the five-month prison sentence, Jussie spoke out.

Jussie will serve 150 days in jail, as well as 30 months of felony probation. He also has to pay restitution to the city of Chicago and a fine of $25,000.

Before being taken away to jail, Jussie told the judge, “I would just like to say, your honor, I am not suicidal.” He repeated that sentiment two more times.

“I am innocent and I am not suicidal,” Jussie continued. “If I did this then it means I stuck my fist in fears of the Black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBT community. Your honor, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this and I am not suicidal. And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that. I respect you, your honor. I respect your decision. Jail time… I am not suicidal.”

While being taken away by the bailiff, Jussie put his fist in the air and yelled, “I am not suicidal, I am innocent!” again.

Days before his trial in November, Jussie made his first red carpet appearance in years.
