Why Did Chrishell Stause & Jason Oppenheim Break Up? 'Selling Sunset' Stars Explain

Selling Sunset season five has officially debuted on Netflix today, and one of the big story lines is Chrishell Stause‘s romance with Jason Oppenheim.

Fans might be wondering, why Chrishell, 40, and Jason, 45, split up especially when they seemed so happy early on in their romance.

After their December 2021 breakup, the pair both posted statements on Instagram, explaining they had different desires for their future. Specifically, they had differing views on wanting to start a family.

“I have tried to embrace the world I have found myself in and that includes being open and honest about my relationships,” she posted on Instagram in a now deleted post. “It felt scary and terrifying knowing that it may not end in what society deems a success and what I am ultimately looking for. But after many long heartfelt talks, I am choosing to see it as a success no matter what label is attached to it publicly.”

She added, “Jason was and is my best friend, and other than our ideas for family ultimately not being aligned, the amount of respect and love we have for each other will not change going forward.”

Meanwhile, Jason took to his Instagram Stories, and wrote, “While Chrishell and I are no longer together, we remain best friends and we will always love and support one another. She was the most amazing girlfriend I’ve ever had, and it was the happiest and most fulfilling relationship of my life.”

He did add that they had “different wants regarding a family,” but they “continue to have the utmost respect for one another.”

“Chrishell is an exceptional human being and loving her and having her in my life is one of the best things that has ever happened to me,” he concluded.

Jason and Chrishell announced their split in December 2021. They first confirmed their romance in the summer of 2021 and many of the Selling Sunset cast celebrated the big reveal. You can also find out why they kept their relationship a secret in the beginning.
