Lil Nas X Expresses Frustrations After Receiving Zero Nominations at BET Awards 2022

Lil Nas X is reacting to the 2022 BET Awards nominations.

On Wednesday (June 1), the BET Awards announced the nominations for this year’s ceremony – which will be taking place later this month – and the 23-year-old rapper didn’t receive any nods.

Shortly after the nominations were announced, Lil Nas X took to social media to vent about his lack of nominations.

“thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!” Lil Nas X started, in a series of now-deleted tweets.

After a fan questioned his tweet and asked why he felt he deserved to be nominated, Lil Nas X replied, “idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album… i feel like that should’ve helped me a bit.”

He continued, “not even that, doesn’t even have to be me nominated, i just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible.”

Lil Nas X released his debut album, Montero, back in September 2021. The album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 100 albums chart and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

His two songs – “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Industry Baby” — topped the Billboard Hot 100, while a third, “That’s What I Want,” peaked at No. 8.

The 2022 BET Awards – which honor musicians, actors and athletes – will air live on June 26 from Los Angeles.
