Magnus Carlsen Breaks Silence Amid Bizarre Chess Cheating Scandal

Magnus Carlsen has broken his silence during the greatest chess cheating scandal in the history of the sport.

The 31-year-old Norwegian chess grandmaster was defeated during the third round of the 2022 Sinquefield Cup by 19-year-old American grandmaster Hans Niemann.

Magnus later tweeted a cryptic video of Portuguese football manager José Mourinho saying: “I prefer really not to speak. If I speak I am in big trouble,” implying cheating.

Elon Musk then reshared a post which offered a theory as to how the cheating occurred: “Currently obsessed with the notion that Hans Niemann has been cheating at the Sinquefield Cup chess tournament using wireless anal beads that vibrate him the correct moves.”

The drama continued when Magnus abruptly resigned after making a single move in his highly anticipated rematch with Hans.

Now Magnus, the highest ranked chess player in the world, has spoken out with an interesting statement.

“Unfortunately I cannot particularly speak on that but people can draw their own conclusion and they certainly have. I have to say I’m very impressed by Niemann’s play and I think his mentor GM Maxim Dlugy must be doing a great job,” Magnus said, via Chess24.com.

Hans’ former trainer Maxim Dlugy has been banned from chess.com after allegedly cheating back in 2017.

Hans has admitted to cheating twice in online chess events when he was 12 and 16 years. Chess.com announced to the chess community that it has banned Hans from its tournaments.

Most recently Hans just lost to GM Le Quang Liem in Thursday’s quarterfinals of the tournament while Magnus won his quarterfinal match.
