'RuPaul's Drag Race' Alum Cynthia Lee Fontaine Taking Break From Performing to Undergo Hip Surgery

RuPaul’s Drag Race star Cynthia Lee Fontaine is taking a break from the stage to undergo hip surgery.

The 41-year-old queen who competed on Seasons 8 and 9 of the reality show explained that she would need both hips replaced after being diagnosed with avascular necrosis.

She opened up about her plans and explained what was happening in a post on social media.

Cynthia explained that her diagnosis came after “dealing with a lot of pain on my hips since last year” on Instagram.

“After x rays and MRI I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis ( bones do not received blood , started getting damage and causing a lot of pain ) this was due to exposure to my chemo treatment and also steroids ( Pain Killers ) back in the days when I was battling cancer,” she explained.

The star shared an MRI of her hips in a video that accompanied her explanation.

Both of her hips will need to be replaced. Her first surgery is taking place on November 9 and her second is scheduled for early 2023.

“I’ll be not working for almost 6 months due to recovery . I promise me and my Boyfriend will keep you all updated,” she added.

Cynthia was positive about the experience. “And if I kick cancer in the cucu , this is easy to beat,” she vowed after asking for support from her fans in the coming months.
