“This song was inspired by the passing of my grandfather, and I feel him with me every time I sing it. As I’ve said many times, it is my favorite song I’ve ever written,” Scotty shared in a statement on the song when it debut.

As for teaming up with Hallmark for a film series, he added that they had “been in talks with them for a while. They heard the song and loved the song, and wanted to find a way to incorporate it into a movie. It’s a cool way; they’re taking the grandfather theme, which is how ‘Five More Minutes’ got started.”

While the first film centered around the granddaughter having five more minutes with her late granddad, the next installment has another storyline entirely.

“[The song] helped me heal after losing him. People tell me their stories every day about what it means to them, and now Hallmark wants to do a movie on it. It just shows you the power of a song.”

“Five More Minutes”, the song, appears on Scotty‘s 2018 album, Seasons Change.
