Are Katy Perry & Rihanna Still Friends? We Revisited the Pop Star BFFs' Friendship After Rihanna's Super Bowl Shoutout from Katy

Not too long ago in pop history Rihanna and Katy Perry were the pop besties that Lizzo and Adele became at the 2023 Grammys earlier this month, and it looks like their relationship is still going strong behind the scenes.

The pop legends sat side by side at awards shows, cozied up for pics and likely spent any free time reflecting on how iconic they were. However, the last time Katy and Rihanna were photographed together was at the 2015 Grammys. We did some digging to find out more about their relationship.

During an interview with Elle in 2012, Rihanna reflected on meeting Katy back in 2009.

“She’s gorgeous, charming, and so unedited it’s scary,” Rihanna said of the “Dark Horse” titan. “That’s what intrigued me the most when I first met her: She said it like she saw it. I trust people like that.”

Katy was equally flattering of the “Diamonds” diva, telling the publication that they bonded after she complimented Rihanna‘s Valentino bag, according to Page Six. The rest was history when Rihanna gifted her the same bag shortly thereafter.

Rihanna hosted Katy‘s bachelorette party when she married Russell Brand and was reportedly there to comfort her after the relationship ended.

A year later, Katy talked about Rihanna‘s “light” but also hinted at drama with her friend’s entourage and said that she was done “saving” celebs, according to E News. A source told Hollywood Life that the comments didn’t sit well.

While there might have been drama behind the scenes, they clearly left it in the past. In 2014, they attended an event in support of fellow musician Grimes and partied together in 2015.

While we haven’t seen them together much since then, there has been a very recent hint that they are still friends.

On Sunday (February 12), ahead of Rihanna‘s gig at the 2023 Super Bowl, Katy hopped on Twitter to shout out her friend again and wish her well.

“sending you all the love. you got this,” she tweeted. See the message below:

Of course, we all know Rihanna slayed the performance, which featured an awe-inspiring setlist of hits and a bit of Fenty Beauty promo!

After the performance, Katy and Rihanna have one more thing in common – incredibly popular Halftime Shows. They officially delivered the two most-viewed performances in recorded Super Bowl history.

Hopefully they can get together sometime to celebrate that feat!
