Brendan Hunt Reveals A Romance Between Ted and Rebecca Almost Happened on 'Ted Lasso'

Ted Lasso wrapped up its three season story just last week on Apple TV+, and one of the show’s creators/stars, Brendan Hunt, has revealed why it avoided a romance between Ted and Rebecca.

Speaking to fans during a Reddit AMA, Brendan, who played Willis Beard on the series, addressed why the show didn’t explore a romantic relationship between the two, played by Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham.

After one fan asked if a “Ted-and-Rebecca endgame [was] ever considered in the writer’s room”, Brendan admitted it was considered.

“Out of professional responsibility, yes,” he said. “But never with enthusiasm.”

Brendan added that fans “have been taught by years and years of television that when there is a male lead and a female lead, they end up together. That can be hard conditioning to see past.”

He also noted that while there were many moments throughout the series that hinted that something could develop between Ted and Rebecca, saying that they were more “soulmates” and soulmates don’t always “require romance.”

In a previous interview, Brendan also opened up about the future of the series.
