'The Blind Side' Subject Michael Oher Alleges Family Adoption Was a Lie, Tricked Into Conservatorship & Denied Him Movie Royalties

Michael Oher is making some shocking claims.

The 37-year-old retired NFL star, who was allegedly adopted out of poverty by a wealthy white family as depicted in 2009′s The Blind Side, is claiming that the story is very different than what appears in the movie.

In a 14-page petition filed Monday (August 14) in Shelby County, Tenn., the former athlete alleges that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy never actually adopted him, instead tricking him into giving up his authority to make business deals by making them his conservators at age 18, via ESPN.

He also claims that they arranged the deal that paid them and their two birth children millions of dollars in royalties from the Oscar-winning movie, which brought in more than $300 million, while Michael received no payment.

He went on to say the conservatorship “provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys,” even though they referred to him as their “adopted son” and used the relationship to promote their foundation and Leigh Anne’s work as an author and motivational speaker.

He is asking the court to terminate the conservatorship and issue an injunction prohibiting The Tuohys from using his name and likeness, as well as full accounting of the money earned by the family using his name. At the time, it was billed as the story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.
