Miley Cyrus Revisits Feud With Sinead O'Connor Over 'Wrecking Ball' Music Video

Miley Cyrus looked back on her feud with Sinead O’Connor, which stemmed from the release of her “Wrecking Ball” music video in 2013.

The late “Nothing Compares 2 U” star warned Miley, 30, against “being prostituted” in an open letter when the video was released. The duo went back and forth with Sinead once threatening to sue the pop star.

Nearly 10 years after the fact, Miley revisited the time during her Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions) for Hulu. She addressed the drama, revealed some regrets and explained how she felt now.

Miley acknowledged that she expected “controversy and backlash” upon the release of her music video. However, she said that she was surprised to have it come from “other women.”

She reflected specifically on Sinead and their feud, saying, “I had no idea about the fragile mental state that she was in. And I was also only 20 years old. So I could really only wrap my head around mental illness so much” (via People).

“All that I saw was that another woman had told me that this idea was not my idea, and even if I was convinced that it was, it was still just men in power’s idea of me and they had manipulated me to believe that it was my own idea when it never really was. And it was. And it is. And I still love it,” she stressed.

The pop star said that she was “exhausted” after facing so much judgment.

“I was in this place where I finally was making my own choices and my own decisions, and to have that taken away from me deeply upset me,” she continued.

In 2023, Miley is putting the drama firmly behind her. “God bless Sinead O’Connor for real, in all seriousness,” she said.

Sinead tragically passed away at the age of 56 in July 2023.

Meanwhile, Miley is currently promoting the release of her new single “Used To Be Young.” It was purposefully released on August 25, a “very important” day for her.
