Anderson Cooper Recalls 'Mortifying' Experience Dancing With Madonna During 2015 Concert

Anderson Cooper is looking back on a “mortifying” experience he once shared with Madonna.

If you forgot, the 56-year-old journalist joined the Queen of Pop onstage at a concert in 2015. During his brief performance with her, he was humped by the dancer and handed a banana.

While on Kelly Ripa‘s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, Anderson opned up about the moment that he actively tries to forget happened.

Anderson told Kelly that he was “mortified” by his onstage moment with Madonna.

Why? “I love the whole idea of it. I love the experience of it. I don’t love the video that exists of it. I don’t love the reality,” he explained.

He added that he “didn’t know what the hell was going on” because he wasn’t fully prepped.

“I was terrible. I danced terribly. It was mortifying,” Anderson said, adding that he realized how “natural” performers make moments look onstage when they are actually anything but.

In regards to the performance, Anderson said that Madonna “pushed me over and humped me, which I didn’t expect at all.”

“To this day I don’t know what happened,” he added.

Despite their embarrassing moment onstage, Anderson and Madonna are close. She was a featured guest at the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards, where Anderson received a special award. Anderson then introduced her at Billboard’s Women in Music 2016 Luncheon where she was named Woman of the Year.
