'Barbie' Overtakes 'Super Mario Bros. Movie,' Becomes Biggest Movie of 2023 Worldwide

Living in a Barbie world is getting better and better for Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Greta Getwig and the rest of the cast of the year’s biggest movie.

In late August, the pink-hued movie dethroned The Super Mario Bros. Movie to become the top-grossing release of the year in North America.

The blockbuster just claimed another record previously held by Super Mario. It is now the top earner worldwide!

According to Variety, Barbie hit a new box office milestone this week, surpassing $1.36 billion in ticket sales. That’s enough to beat Super Mario by $.01 billion.

Barbie has not stopped breaking records since it debuted in theaters this summer. It’s on pace to become the biggest movie of all time for Warner Bros.

The movie surpassed $1 billion in box office sales within 17 days, one of the fastest movies of all time to pull off the feat.

Those numbers will only continue to grow as it heads to Imax with some new post-credit footage.
