Selena Gomez Seemingly References Justin Bieber 'Heartbreak' in New Interview

Selena Gomez appeared to reference her relationship with Justin Bieber in a new interview.

The 31-year-old “Single Soon” pop star was linked to the “Baby” hitmaker, and they dated on and off for years through 2018 when Justin rekindled a relationship with his wife Hailey Bieber.

Although it’s never been confirmed, many fans believe that Selena addressed their final breakup on her first chart-topping single “Lose You to Love Me,” which arrived the following year. She seemingly alluded to the song’s creation in a new interview.

Speaking at the Twilio SIGNAL 2023 conference, Selena referenced how “heartbreak” has inspired her to create new music.

“So then when I was going through a heartbreak, I immediately wrote my best music and wanted to be there for every woman or a man or whoever going through that journey,” she said. Elle reported that the comment was in reference to “Lose You to Love Me,” which Selena later called her favorite song.

She had more to say about creating through pain, too: “Then there was the kidney transplant I walked through and all these things that may seem like they could bring someone down, I try my hardest to say at least they’re not alone, and if I keep going, hopefully that means someone else can keep going because I don’t want to always do it but I want to for them more so than myself at times, but I’m a work in progress, and it’s just one day at a time.”

Selena also addressed “Lose You to Love Me” in her My Mind & Me documentary. Elsewhere, she dished on a lyric in the song that many believe is a direct reference to Justin.

If you missed it, Selena shared a rare acoustic performance of the enduring hit earlier this year.
