Dev Patel Praises 'Lion' Co-Star Nicole Kidman: 'She Just Went So Deep Into It'

Dev Patel has nothing but nice things to say about his Lion co-star Nicole Kidman, who plays his adoptive mother Sue in the film.

“Looking at Nicole Kidman and calling her mum – it’s interesting when you meet her, playing the role, she still maintains her grace,” the 26-year-old actor recently expressed (via The National). “But that glamour, that ­movie-star glamour, she leaves it at the door. When she came into the rehearsals, she just went so deep into it that you forget that you’re with Nicole Kidman and she ­became Sue.”

Dev also talks about how the story deeply resonated with him: “I’m playing the closest thing to myself,” he added. “He’s a contemporary young man, who is more Australian than Indian. I really relate to the fish out of water, the outsider, the underdog – you could almost say it’s a common factor in a number of the ­characters I’ve played in my career.”

Last night (November 30), Dev suited up to join his co-star, 8-year-old scene stealer Sunny Pawar, author Saroo Brierley and screenplay writer Luke Davies at Burberry & The Weinstein Company‘s special cocktail event held in honor of his Lion performance at the Penthouse of the Burberry Beverly Hills flagship store.

FYI: Dev and others were all dressed in Burberry.
