St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Game Series Postponed Due To Coronavirus Outbreak Within Team

There has been another outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus within a baseball team, CNN reports.

Seven members of the baseball team, as well six staffers from the St. Louis Cardinals have all tested positive for the virus in the past week, just days ahead of of their game series against the Detroit Tigers.

The team is still being quarantined in Milwaukee, where they were set to play against the Brewers last week.

Major League Baseball announced that the series would be postponed because of the outbreak, which follows the outbreak within the Miami Marlins earlier this month.

ESPN also reported that Commissioner Rob Manfred phoned union leader Tony Clark in a phone call about the league and players doing a better job of following the protocols put in place. He also warned him that if not followed, he would shut down the shortened season.

The plan is to restart the Cardinals‘ season on Friday, August 7, against the Chicago Cubs. However, that is all based on the test results.

Protocols put in place for the shortened MLB season included banning high-fives and spitting, and keeping fans out of stadiums.

Teams, however, are still traveling to and from stadiums in an out of state, unlike their NHL, NBA and WNBA counterparts.

The St. Louis Cardinals most recently won the World Series in 2011.

New York Mets Star Yoenis Cespedes Didn't Show Up for MLB Game, Team Is Unable to Contact Him

Major league baseball star Yoenis Céspedes, who plays for the New York Mets and was an integral player in their run to the World Series back in 2015, did not report to the team’s game today (August 2) and fans are concerned.

“As of game time, Yoenis Céspedes has not reported to the ballpark today. He did not reach out to management with any explanation for his absence. Our attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful,” the Mets said in a statement.

When news hit Twitter, fans wrote comments like, “This is a bit concerning,” “Here’s hoping Yoenis Cespedes is okay. Anything else is trivial in comparison,” and “We sincerely hope that Yoenis Cespedes is Ok.”

We hope everything is okay with Yoenis and we will update with any new developments.

The Marlins were supposed to head back to Miami to play their home opener against the Baltimore Orioles tonight as well, and that game has also been postponed, ESPN reports.
