'Mad Max Fury Road' Prequel 'Furiosa' Set To Be Biggest Australian Movie To Date

Furiosa is bringing a lot of jobs to Australia, and making it the biggest movie ever made in the country.

Announced today (April 19) by New South Wales state Premier Gladys Berejiklian, the prequel film, she says, will start shooting in 2022, bring at least $350M AUD into the local economy and create 850 new jobs.

Cast member Chris Hemsworth was in attendance at the press conference alongside director George Miller and shared that working on the film will be “the biggest pinch-myself moment, because I’ve grown up watching it [‘Mad Max’] and it’s so iconic.”

He added that joining the franchise is “a huge honor. A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating.”

Many plot details about the movie are still under wraps, including Chris‘s role and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II‘s role as well.

Anya Taylor-Joy will portray the younger version of Furiosa in the movie, which was played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.

George did say that the prequel movie’s timeline will be spread out over years.

“Whereas Fury Road essentially happened over three days and two nights, this happens over many years,” he shared. ”You try to make films that are uniquely familiar…This will be familiar to those people who know Mad Max, and in particular Fury Road, but also it will be unique.”

Charlize Theron is being replaced as Furiosa in the Mad Max franchise, and now, she’s reacting to the news.

If you don’t know, Charlize played the role in the 2015 film to rave reviews. However, filmmaker George Miller decided to move forward in the franchise and document a younger Furiosa. Thus, he is recasting the role with an actress in her 20s.actor in her 20s.

“It’s a tough one to swallow. Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making that film with him. He’s a master, and I wish him nothing but the best, “ Charlize told THR. “Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner. We get so hung up on the smaller details that we forget the thing that we emotionally tap into has nothing to do with that minute thing that we’re focusing on.”

Jodie Comer Being Eyed for Young Furiosa in 'Mad Max' Spinoff

Jodie Comer is being eyed to play the role of a young Furiosa in the upcoming spinoff of Mad Max: Fury Road!

The 27-year-old actress is an Emmy winner for her role as Villanelle on the hit series Killing Eve and she will next be seen in the sci-fi action comedy Free Guy, hitting theaters in December.

George Miller, the director of Mad Max: Fury Road, recently revealed that he’s planning on shooting the Furiosa spinoff next year and it was just announced that Charlize Theron will not be returning to play the role again.

A younger actress will be playing Furiosa in the film, which will be about the character’s backstory. THR says that Comer is being considered for the role.

Another up-and-coming actress has reportedly auditioned for a lead role in the upcoming movie.

Charlize Theron Will Not Reprise Role in Furiosa Spinoff Movie

George Miller, the director of the hit movie Mad Max: Fury Road, is opening up about the upcoming Furiosa spinoff movie.

Charlize Theron played the role of Furiosa in the Oscar-winning film, but she will not be returning for the spinoff. The upcoming movie will focus on a younger Furiosa and auditions have begun to find an actress in her 20s.

“For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-aging on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet,” Miller said in an interview with The New York Times. “Despite the valiant attempts on The Irishman, I think there’s still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, particular Japanese video-game designers, but there’s still a pretty wide valley, I believe.”

The screenplay for the Furiosa spinoff was actually written before Mad Max: Fury Road was even shot so that the character’s backstory could be understood. Miller said, “It was purely a way of helping Charlize and explaining it to ourselves.”

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who appeared in Fury Road, says, “I got to read it when I was cast. It’s genius. I’ve always wondered if that movie’s going to get made.”

Anya Taylor-Joy is in talks to star in a Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off for the character Furiosa!

George Miller, who directed and co-wrote the Oscar-winning movie, is on board to make the upcoming spin-off and Variety reports that he plans on shooting it in 2021.

Anya had a meeting with George via Skype, according to the outlet.

Charlize Theron, who played Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, has said she would play the character again if George was involved in the project.

“I love that character, I loved working with George Miller, and if he was ever on board, yeah, I would be in right from the beginning,” she previously told ScreenRant. “With him it’s kind of like working with Jason Reitman. I wouldn’t even need to see a script, I trust him that much and it’s great when you have that with a filmmaker.”
