Helen recently opened up about how her acting career has helped her direct her FX series Feud.
“I tell every director, every wannabe director, ‘Get in an acting class,’” she told Mashable. “My time acting and studying acting serves me every time I have to open my mouth and speak to one of these really smart actors, you know what I mean? You don’t want to say something that’s going to mess up what they have, but you do want to give them something new to try, or help them get out of a jam if they’re feeling not good about it.”

“The script happened to be amazing when I read it,” Corey added (Variety). “It lifted off the page, and my mind just started going with where you can take it and what it means in television to be a hero and look like I look. It’s not just about his skin color, it’s about his culture. It’s about where he grew up. It’s about what does it mean, what are the alliances growing in Washington, D.C. southeast, where I happen to personally have grown up.”
The director and acting teacher frequently worked with Helen on her hit sitcom Mad About You and she once opened up about how nearly all her memorably episodes were with him at the helm.
Gordon died on Saturday night (December 17) after a battle with Parkinson’s disease, Helen revealed.
“He was a master of reinvention, a journeyman artist,” she told THR. “He knew and taught that the work doesn’t always find you. You need to create and re-create the work every day.”

The 52-year-old actress and director is no stranger to surfing after appearing in 2011′s Soul Surfer about a shark attack survivor and 2014′s Ride about a mom whose son drops out of school to become a surfer.
Helen told The Surf Channel in May that surfing was more than just a sport to her.
“I think it’s just put me right in the arms of mother nature more than anything,” Helen said. “It’s a way to get very, very close to something that’s much, much bigger than you and that’s the best thing about it.”
