J.J. Abrams Is Working on a 'Justice League Dark' Series for HBO Max!

J.J. Abrams is working on exciting new DC Comics series, which is heading to HBO Max!

THR is reporting that the prolific producer, director, and writer has three new series heading to the streaming service, including “an untitled drama based on characters in the so-called Justice League Dark universe.”

Some of the characters that are part of the Justice League Dark team include Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing and John Constantine.

The other two series are crime drama called Duster and a spinoff to The Shining, which will be called Overlook.

All three of the series will be produced by Abrams, his wife and business partner Katie McGrath, and Bad Robot’s head of television Ben Stephenson. Bad Robot’s exec vp TV Rachel Rusch Rich will be a co-executive producer.

“What an amazing start to our association with the wildly imaginative Bad Robot team under J.J. and Katie,” HBO Max’s chief content officer Kevin Reilly said in a statement. “What could be better than an original J.J. idea and then Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic IP from Stephen King and the DC Universe and to provide more must-have programming on HBO Max.”

Bad Robot is developing film and TV ideas based on DC ComicsJustice League Dark universe, Deadline reported on Tuesday (January 21).

The company is reportedly developing ideas that are “all very nascent and at this point in time there aren’t any specific projects or characters that are being specifically developed out of the franchise.”

“Bad Robot’s Head of Motion Pictures Hannah Minghella and Head of Television Ben Stephenson will soon be taking meetings with talent reps and their writing clients on which characters will get their own projects,” the report goes on to say.

Justice League Dark, or JLD team, first appeared in the September 2011 issue of Justice League Dark #1 featuring John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, the Changing Man, and Zatanna. The squad grew with characters like Swamp Thing, Andrew Bennett, Black Orchid, Doctor Mist, Frankenstein, Pandora, Nightmare Nurse and more.

The original Justice League includes characters like Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Aquaman and The Flash.

“This is all so early, so it’s not specific yet if Bad Robot boss J.J. Abrams will be directing any of these projects,” the report also clarifies.
