Kong: Skull Island easily topped this weekend’s box office with a whopping $61 million debut!

The film starring Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, and Brie Larson has made $142.6 million overseas so far, according to THR.

Taking second place was Hugh Jackman‘s Logan, which earned an additional $37.9 million for a total of $154 million domestically.

Coming in at No. 3 was Jordan Peele‘s horror film Get Out with $21 million in its third weekend, surpassing the $100 million mark domestically.

Rounding out the top five were The Shack and The Lego Batman Movie, which earned $8.7 million and $7.7 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Kristen Stewart‘s new flick Personal Shopper debuted to $92,516 from four theaters, for a screen average of $23,129.

A large statue of King Kong at the premiere of Kong: Skull Island caught on fire during the premiere of the movie on Thursday (March 9) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The fire started after dancers performed a routine around a fire and one of the entertainers reportedly left behind a torch that ignited, according to AFP (via Huffington Post).

None of the film’s stars – including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Samuel L. Jackson – were at the event.

No injuries were reported and the fire was put out within 15 minutes.

Recently, Brie spoke with Uproxx about her being announced as Captain Marvel and how it was such a huge moment that no one knew about.

“You know, to be honest, I just plead ignorance in those cases because I see announcements for people playing characters all the time and I just don’t really think about ‘what the world’s reaction is.’ I didn’t even have social media until recently. So it wasn’t until I was backstage in Hall H, and it was like, all of those actors from all the movies were there. And I was super starstruck and talking with all of them. And then all of them were like, ‘Why are you here? Are you in the panel next, after us?’ I was like, ‘Oh, no, I’m going to be part of this now.’ And they were like, ‘What?’ No one knew,” Brie said.

Kong: Skull Island has another trailer that just debuted ahead of the March 10 release date!

The film follows a team of explorers, who are brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific – as beautiful as it is treacherous – unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Jing Tian, Toby Kebbell, John Ortiz, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Shea Whigham, and Thomas Mann all star in the film.

In addition, a Kong: Skull Island VR experience was just revealed, and will be available on YouTube 360 at 9AM PST tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Brie Larson is standing up for journalists while they are being attacked by President Trump and she says she’s proud to play a journalist in the upcoming movie Kong: Skull Island.

“I make movies as a form of activism,” the 27-year-old Oscar-winning actress wrote on Instagram.

“I believe we learn from what we see in our leaders. I’m proud to play Mason Weaver in [Kong: Skull Island] because she represents the many journalists who risk their lives everyday to share with us the truth,” Brie added. “Weaver leads with compassion and believes that unity cannot be obtained through aggression. I’m excited to share this film with you. And in the meanwhile I’m thrilled to have this platform as a way to connect us. Let’s work together. Lets be open to learning from each other.”
