Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach walks the red carpet at a press conference following the 2015 Miss Universe pageant on Sunday (December 20) at The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nev.

The 26-year-old beauty opened up to Entertainment Tonight about being crowned Miss Universe following a major mishap in which she was originally announced to be the runner-up.

“I was confused. I wasn’t sure what was going on,” Pia said. “I didn’t expect that to happen at all.”

“I had to ask my [manager] many times like, ‘Did I really win? Am I really Miss Universe? Are you going to take the crown from me now?’ And they [said], ‘No, no, you’re really the winner,’” Pia added.

Pia says she still has not spoken to Miss Colombia Adriadna Gutierrez after the mistake.

“She was crying and then there was a crowd around her, the girls who were comforting her,” Pia said. “I was actually very close to her already, but I decided that maybe it was bad timing to do it now — to apologize to her for what happened. So maybe I’ll do that in the future.”

Steve Harvey mistakenly crowned the wrong Miss Universe on Sunday evening (December 20).

The 58-year-old television host accidentally announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner. She immediately took her first walk with her crown but shortly after Steve came back on stage.

He immediately apologized and stated the correct winner was indeed Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.Steve quickly took to his Twitter to formally apologize as well.

“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible,” he said.

“Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake. I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.”

Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is crowned Miss Universe after winning the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant held at the Planet Hollywood hotel on Sunday (December 20) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

First runner-up was given to Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez with Miss USA Olivia Jordan coming in third. Presenter Steve Harvey accidentally revealed Adriadna as the winner initially until he corrected his own mistake on live television.

This year, the pageant moved forward without Donald Trump due to his racy comments made a few months earlier during his presidential campaign run.
