A new TMZ documentary aired this week and gave some insight into what happened to Richard Simmons.
The 74-year-old former fitness expert stopped teaching at his workout studio in February 2014 and has not been seen in public since then.
The documentary revealed the alleged reason why Richard went into hiding all those years ago.
Richard spoke out in a statement in 2017, his first time speaking publicly in three years.

Richard Simmons is planning on suing a media company for defaming him several stories recently.
The former fitness guru’s lawyers plan on filing a lawsuit against American Media, Inc., the parent company of Radar Online and the National Enquirer, for a “a hurtful campaign of defamations and privacy invasions,” according to People.
It’s not yet known how much Simmons is seeking in damages, but the lawsuit will reportedly be filed today (May 8).
Richard has remained reclusive in the past few years and he recently was hospitalized for severe indigestion.
Richard Simmons is speaking out for the first time after returning home from his recent hospitalization for serious stomach issues.
The 64-year-old fitness guru took to his Facebook page to thank the hospital staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for taking care of him.

“Hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday,” Richard wrote. “I wanted to take a moment to send a big thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center during my short stay there this week. They make you feel good even though you’re in the hospital for feeling bad.”
Richard has not been seen in public since February 2014 and has faced tons of rumors over the years concerning his whereabouts. Some of the rumors include that he’s transitioning, that he’s being held hostage, and more.
Last week, Richard checked into the hospital after suffering stomach issues before getting discharged on Saturday.
“Another shout out goes to the wonderful men and women of the Los Angeles Police Dept. They were so helpful and kind as I returned home. Let’s take a minute and all be thankful for medical professionals, police, firefighters and our brave military forces here and around the world. They risk so much every day to make us well and keep us protected. God Bless all of them,” Richard added.

Richard Simmons was taken to the hospital for stomach issues, ABC News reports.
“Richard Simmons was hospitalized on Monday at an undisclosed location in California. After a few days of battling severe indigestion and discomfort while eating, we agreed it was best for him to seek treatment,” his rep said in a statement. “He’s already feeling better and is expected to make a full recovery.”
Richard‘s life has been subject to much public interest and controversy after friends have reported him missing for months and months. A podcast was even dedicated to his whereabouts. Richard‘s rep has repeatedly denied he is missing.
