'Matilda' Movie Based on Stage Musical is Coming to Netflix

Matilda is getting the big-screen treatment once again.

Netflix and Sony Pictures are joining forces for a new film adaptation of Roald Dahl‘s beloved children’s book, based on the stage musical Matilda the Musical, THR reports.

The movie adaptation will receive a full theatrical and home video release exclusively in the U.K. and then stream on Netflix around the world.

Details are reportedly still being worked out.

Matilda also received the film treatment in 1996, telling the story of “a young bookworm prodigy mistreated by her ignorant parents. At a school run by an abusive headmistress, she finds a kindred spirit in her teacher, Miss Honey.”

The film adaptation of Matilda the Musical will be directed by Matthew Warchus (pictured here).
