Roger Federer has announced that he, too, will be leaving the 2021 French Open.
The 39-year-old tennis star revealed why he was stepping back from the competition in a statement on social media.

Roger Federer is sitting out for the duration of the year.
The 38-year-old tennis player has been set back while recovering from surgery on his right knee, he confirmed on social media on Wednesday (June 10).

Roger had arthroscopic surgery on his knee in February, and revealed he had a second procedure that will put off his return until 2021.
“A few weeks ago, having experienced a setback during my initial rehabilitation, I had to have an additional quick arthroscopic procedure on my right knee. Now, much like I did leading up to the 2017 season, I plan to take the necessary time to be 100% ready to play at my highest level,” he said.
“I will look forward to seeing everyone back on tour at the start of the 2021 season.”

The 37-year-old Swiss tennis star had a special conversation led by Derek Blasberg, Head of Partnerships of Fashion and Beauty at YouTube, to discuss his partnership with UNIQLO.

“It’s a big honor. A huge brand. It has still a huge potential around the world to achieve,” Roger said of being Uniqlo‘s biggest ambassador. “For me as an athlete it takes a big role because it’s a big opportunity for me as I am involved in sports. It’s unbelievable to also go to Tokyo promoting the brand.”
“I had to go into it, I used to be a shy person, so dressing up was not my thing. That’s why I needed help from my wife, style people, fashion icons to go out there and take a chance, don’t feel bad,” Roger added about his style. “Making mistakes is all good. Today I feel really comfortable, I got my style and it’s really good. You always try to take inspiration from outside to bring it on the court. We really try to have a lot of fun with outfits’s choice and design as we have more time now for it.”
Novak Djokovic won the men’s singles final over Roger Federer at Wimbledon!
The 32-year-old Serbian tennis player defeated the 37-year-old Swiss star during two straight sets on Sunday (July 14) at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, United Kingdom.
Novak won the championship’s first ever fifth-set tiebreaker, 7-3, after they played to 12-12 in the final set.
This was also his fifth victory in a row over Roger, and his fifth straight in Grand Slam play. Roger last defeated Novak back in 2012.

Roger Federer‘s four kids are so cute!
The 37-year-old tennis great is the father of two sets of twins: daughters Myla Rose, 9, and Charlene Riva, 9, as well as twin boys Lenny, 5, and Leo, 5.
Over the years, Roger‘s wife Mirka has taken all four kids to his matches including the French Open, Wimbledon, the Australian Open, and more. His kids have watched their dad from the stands often.

During the Wimbledon Morning Coffee show, a few of the commentators mentioned that the Duchess visited Wimbledon to take in some matches this week.
They revealed that the Duchess told retired British star athlete Anne Keothavong that the five-year-old royal had gotten the opportunity to play with Roger.
