Taye Diggs and Amber Riley have joined the cast of the upcoming animated series Ariel, which will serve as a prequel to the 2023 movie The Little Mermaid.
Disney Junior and Disney+ will air the new animated musical series in 2024 and it’s aimed at pre-schoolers.
The series “follows 8-year-old mermaid princess Ariel as she and her friends embark on fun-filled, action-packed underwater adventures throughout their Caribbean-inspired fairytale kingdom of Atlantica and beyond.”

The Little Mermaid is heading to Disney+ next month!
The streaming network revealed that the latest live action movie, starring Halle Bailey, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy and Jonah Hauer-King, will be available to stream for all subscribers on September 6.
On top of the movie, Disney+ subscribers will also get access to special bonus content, which includes Javier performing the song “Impossible Child”, and much more.
The Little Mermaid centers on Halle’s Ariel, who is the most defiant of King Triton’s seven daughters, who longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric.
The movie grossed $564M worldwide, following its release in May.
