Natalie Portman 'Disgusted' by John Galliano's Racist Rant

Natalie Portman is speaking out against John Galliano after a video hit the web showing the Dior designer in an anti-Semitic rant.

“I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano‘s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful,” the 29-year-old Oscar winner, who’s currently the face of Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, said in a statement.

John was recently suspended from Christian Dior after a French couple accused him of hurling racist remarks at them at a cafe in Paris.

Hardly, I majored in world wars and conflict. Turns out that the some of the largest gold mines in the world are located in Germany.

And that there was a huge money/power grab made by immigrant Jews for control over those mines. Those mines were used by the ancient Vikings who became the Kings of England, France, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and it’s gold was used to create the first European currency which drove the prosperity in the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and into the 20th Century.

People are not “evil”, that is folklore, there is a point of view, a side to every story and history is told by the victors. So who tells the side of the looser of wars? Hmmm?

    @ 15

Last time I checked you could make anti-semitic remarks in the US and not get arrested for it… so far all you’ve got is name calling an no facts to back up your statements.

There is a reason that there is still antisemitism, it would greatly behoove Jews to tell ‘the other side’ of the story, the reasons they were and are persecuted. If they were to do that then the solution to end anti-semitic would become abundantly clear.

  • Shelly

To the Oh So Smart “Silly Girl” that has written a comment… What are you talking about? Israel using Chinese people? not letting them have children with Israelis? that’s nonsense!
Yes, there are foreign workers in Israel, some of them Chinese, but that is ONLY because they want to come. they make more money in Israel than back at home. It is a Win-Win situation. And just for you to know – I am waitressing in Israel at the moment and my boss is about to marry a Thai woman he met here.. and trust me, she is accepted here in Israel and is treated as an equal.

And for the anti-semitic remarks being illegal, I didn’t know is was so.. but what if it is? is that a wrong thing? should ignorant, hateful, and prejudice people speak out against others and create hate without being punished? criticism is fine and is even welcomed, however, stupid remarks like Mr. Galliano’s are just wrong and SHOULD be banned.

I hate having to go into these types of arguments, especially on this sort of JUST-FOR-FUN website, but enough in enough.

  • Silly Girl

    #18

Of course not. Now imagine if we used them for cheap labor and forbid them to have children or sexual relations with Americans and forbid them to practice any religion including thier own.

The Chinese slaves in Israel are not allowed to practice their own religion or convert to Judaism. They have to live separately and segregate from their Israel overlords.

R15, you idi*t, they weren’t even Jewish. Galliano is up to 3 incidents at this point. I am sure there will be more. He called the women ugly and called the guy with them an ugly Asian. I highly doubt his bigotry is just reserved for Jews.

Silly Girl, you certainly live up to your name. Would it behoove Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Muslims to say why they are/were persecuted? Your comments are absolutely asinine and have no bearing on this story.

Jared, there is no alleged racist rant. It is all right there in the video you linked.

    John Galliano: I love Hitler
(Video) After making anti-Semitic insults last week, fashion designer caught on video saying to woman ‘Your mothers, forefathers, would be gassed and dead today’. Natalie Portman condemns remarks
VIDEO – Fashion designer John Galliano appeared Monday at a Paris police station to face accusations that he made illegal anti-Semitic slurs, his defense lawyer said, as a new video emerged of Galliano praising Adolf Hitler.
On Monday, a video posted on the Web site of British daily The Sun showed Galliano arguing with a couple at La Perle, a restaurant in the Marais district .
At one point in the video, starting in mid-conversation, a woman’s voice asks Galliano, “Are you blond, with blue eyes?”
Galliano, speaking in slurred speech, replied: “No, but I love Hitler, and people like you would be dead today. Your mothers, your forefathers, would be … gassed and … dead.”
It was unclear when the video was recorded, but in it, the designer was dressed differently than he was on Thursday, when he made an anti-Semitic insult at a Paris café.
The newspaper said neither of the people speaking with Galliano were Jewish.
The famed Gilbraltar-born designer was at the station to face off with a couple that has accused him of making an anti-Semitic insult during a spat Thursday at a trendy Paris cafe while he sat alone sipping a mojito.
French officials said a hospital test found that Galliano had 1.1 milligrams of alcohol per liter of blood — more than twice the legal limit to drive in France — after the incident.
Christian Dior has suspended Galliano, its creative director, pending an investigation, citing its “zero-tolerance” policy on anti-Semitism. The fashion house is scheduled to present its fall-winter 2011-2012 ready-to-wear show on Friday as part of Paris fashion week.
In the wake of media reports on the incident, another woman came forward Saturday to police accusing Galliano of similar anti-Semitic insults at her in October at the same restaurant — La Perle, in the Marais district.
The designer’s lawyer, Stephane Zerbib, stuck to his comments to Associated Press Television News on Friday that Galliano “never made an anti-Semitic remark in more than 10 years at Dior.”
Zerbib said then the designer has denied the couple’s accusations, and has filed a countersuit against them for alleged defamation, threats and insults.
    Portman ‘shocked, disgusted’
Meanwhile, Hollywood actress and recent Oscar winner Natalie Portman condemned Galliano for his remarks. Portman, who has an endorsement contract with Dior where Galliano serves as chief designer, said Monday she was “deeply shocked and disgusted” by the video.
“In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful,” she said in a statement.

    @Silly Girl:

You are of course entitled to your opinion but I do not think that anything you said is a valid criticism of her statement. She said that prejudices are the opposite of what is good and beautiful. Is she wrong? You took this as an excuse to launch into a debate about what Israel does or does not do that (in your view) is immoral. Why? She is not the spokeswoman or representative of all things Jewish. If something bad happens to someone listing your perceived flaws in other people with their same characteristics (race, gender, ethnicity, ect.) does not change the fact that the initial comment or action was wrong. This form of argument is akin to witnessing something that is sexist…and then listing all things about women that you don’t agree with…it is irrelevant.

You come across as if she has no right to criticize something that she views as wrong just because (in your view) Israel is corrupt. Nonsense. The state of Israel’s political behavior has nothing to do with this. What Galliano said was ignorant and she took a stand against something she viewed to be unacceptable. Would you tolerate or at all condone that type of speech?

This says nothing of the fact that you said you agree with her and in your words what he said was “bad”…So let me get this straight: You AGREE with her but she has no right to be a “proud Jew” (as you eloquently put it) or speak out against it just because Israel’s political stance and behavior is wrong from your point of view. That is an entirely different argument. I am also struggling to see why you mentioned the French position on Free Speech…why is that important? It also seems to me that you mentioned your ethnic background (half Jewish) as a means of validating your argument. If you agree the comments made by Galliano were “bad” then what is there left to debate?

“the acient royal French house, Rothchilds, created US and International currency standards in partnership with Jews.”

The Rothschild are absolutely not the ancient royal French house, they were bankers who were then ennobled in 1903 namely far after the kingdom of France fell.

  • Tasha

meh, that was going to be my point as well. She will be supportive of someone who hurts a child, but goes all moral outrage over this – gross double standard. What John Galliano said was beyond wrong, just wish she would have found the same anger for Polanski too.

  • art*deco

She could have answered that question at the academy awards herself. But instead a day later we get a press release drafted by one of her spokesmen. I find that a little bit of taking the easy way out.
But that’s just me, and at the ed of the day it is not about Miss Portman but about Galliano.
Fact is that Dior remains a French company that has been around for much longer than Galliano and will remain around longer. John Galliano will be “let go” and a new head designer will be assigned his job.
It would be stupid to punish the company Dior for something an employee said. If you want to boycot someone, than boycot John Galliano.

You are a seriously sick person and I won’t even bother to reply except to say that you should change your medication asap.

As for Galliano – his drunken remarks were made to four women, none of whom are Jewish! One of the women is Asian and his comment was a vile anti-Chinese remark. On the second occasion the boyfriend of one of the women filmed his comments so he won’t be able to deny what he said in front of a large group of people.

Natalie is a spokesperson for Dior and was therefore asked for her reaction. It was appropriate and well said. As I wrote before, the women involved are NOT Jews.

    Mel Gibson….is that you?
    LOL!
So much stupidity on this thread.
Posters claiming that an entire people is the evil, even raising the blood debt rumors again (idiot), then claiming that others are racist and bigoted.
    Hypocrites.
Hitler and his Nazis almost destroyed Europe, and wiped out entire towns in their ‘ethnic cleansing’. Anyone who doesn’t believe that this happened is hiding their head in the sand, or just too ignorant to hold a rational discussion.
In Germany, it is illegal to use nazi symbolism. in France, it is illegal to spout anti-semitic insults, in the US, crimes against a person due to race, religion or sexuality with be tagged a ‘hate crime’, and will be considered a felony.
There have ALWAYS been limits to freedom of speech. You DON’T have the right to say any ignorant, hateful, bigoted thing that enters your brain. That’s called civilization.
There are REASONS for these rules. They are set up to try to prevent racist/sexist/homophobic attacks on a person or people.
BTW, I think that it is hilarious that Galliano is evidently as stupid as some of these posters.
Did galiano forget that not only did Hitler murder Jews and Gypsies, but homosexuals as well?
He says that he “loves Hitler”, but he would have been one of the first to be taken to the camps. How could you love ypur own executioner?
    Moron.
