Joy Behar Leaving 'The View' After 16 Years

Joy Behar is set to leave The View at the end of the current season after serving as a co-host for the past sixteen and a half years.

The 70-year-old talk show host is the last original panelist aside from series creator Barbara Walters.

“It seemed like the right time,” Joy told Deadline about not renewing her contract. “You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do — I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my standup.”

Rumors have been swirling that Brooke Shields and Alexandra Wentworth are already being considered to step in as a replacement.

Delighted she’s leaving…I quit watching the show because of her. If you don’t happen to share her opinion on anything…then to her you are an idiot. Really.

I was not happy to hear the news that Joy Behar would be leaving the View, she’s one of my favorite hosts, but I’ll be looking forward to see this play she’s writing and also to see her new standup. I’m always at work at DISH when this is on so I record it on my DVR. I’ve recorded several seasons of the View on my DISH Hopper, which can record and store up to 2,000 hours of entertainment. With this, I can continue to store my favorite episodes with Joy Behar and play them back whenever I want.

Good riddance to a negative self centered force. Couldn’t watch the show anymore with her on it. Next it’s Barbara……….she’s getting very strange and pushy.

I’m very glad she’s leaving. She should find a way to deal with her anger rather than oozing contempt on a morning talk show. No amount of Botox will smooth out that kind of ugly.

Her departure cannot come quickly enough. I rarely watch the show anymore. I enjoy listening to Whoopi, Elisabeth and even Sherrie & Barbara, but Behar? She is a frustrated, nasty, botoxed face, scowling, smirking ignorant woman that is a 4th rate so-called comeddiene at best. She is fortunate Barbara plucked her from obscurity or else no one but diner patrons in NYC would know her name. She is 70 years old and still is immature.

@Marisal: Oops, comedienne, sorry for spelling error, phone used auto-correct which is obviosly incorrect.

So glad! It amazed me how it took two uber-liberals on the panel to go up against one conservative. Joy is obnoxious and as closed-minded as they come. She was hired as comic-relief and ended up using her spot as a commentator for the wicked and cranky. “It seemed like a good time to leave” is code for “my opinions are antiquated and I have no fans left, so they told me I had to leave the show.” Ba-bye!

I love Joy. She is a brilliant funny lady. Her views are always right on. I hope she gets her own show. But not on HLN where they tried to control her. And yes, she looks amazing at 70.
I’m glad shrill Elizabeth go the ax today She toned down her hateful views after she got in hot water, but that didn’t save her. She even distanced herself from Sarah Palin. On the other hand, Joy is unafraid to say what she thinks and people respect her for it. However, the View will not be the same with Joy gone. It may be time to pack it in.
