Seth MacFarlane Asked to Host Oscars Again (Exclusive)

Seth MacFarlane has been asked to return as the host for the 2014 Academy Awards, sources exclusively reveal to

The 39-year-old Family Guy creator hosted this year’s ceremony to acclaim from many critics, but also caused controversy with some of the jokes he made throughout the show. Despite the controversy, the ratings for the 2013 Oscars ceremony were up significantly over the year before with 40.3 million viewers tuning in.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who hired Seth for this year’s show, will be returning to helm next year’s show as well.

“After defending his performance, the producers reached out to Seth and invited him back to host the show again,” sources close to the comedian tell exclusively. “He’s not sure if he’s going to do it, but he has to decide within the next couple of weeks.”

Seth previously tweeted that he would not host the Oscars if he were asked to do it again. We can’t wait to find out if he accepts the gig!

DO YOU THINK Seth MacFarlane should return to host the Oscars?

hes okay, but its like their running out of people to host

  • Layla

NOOOOOO Please he was horrible along with his musicals, I rather watch Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts!

  • Jen

The people who were complaining were the celebs and media. Most of the feedback I saw from ordinary viewers thought he was hilarious. Even my 60 year old conservative, still get’s mad if I saw “shut up”, mother thought he was wonderful. Her afterwards, “Wait, these Hollywood girls ge millions to take off their clothes on camera, but I’m supposed to be offended for them when someone points it out? Can’t have it both ways girls.”

Nice try, April Fools was over two weeks ago.

He wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t great either. Comedians are never good hosts, the usually go to far. Maybe they could get a famous celebrity and write funny things for him to do/say. Like they did with Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman. But I guess that’s why the get comedians, so they can write their own bits lol.

  • Arbus

The ratings were up of course, he was still dating Khaleesi Emilia Clarke. After Tina-Amy in Golden Globes I thought they were by far the best Awards host. Very, very hilarious.

    I KNEW IT!!!!!
There are of Asians at my collage and most of them do segregate from anyone who isn’t Asian, and a lot of them are born hear, and when their around non Asians they do have this weird blank expressionless look on their faces! I always thought that it was soooo weird!!!!

I have seen quite a few of them give me dirty and funny looks when I think things that would make people feel that way, and it’s only Asians who have done that! Never any non Asians! I have been thinking that it has to be a coincidence, until I saw your comment! It all makes perfect sense now!!!

  • Jennifer

    @ASIANS CAN READ MINDS!!!!!!!!!:
    You should talk to Kora!

  • Stephen

Don’t mind Seth at all, not the worst host.

  • Shy

Of course they would ask him back. No matter what critics said – he was funny. When I was watching show I laughed. And Oscar hosts are never funny. They are always telling some silly unfunny jokes that we supposed to laugh at.

  • Justme

He shouldn’t do it again,, been there, done it and likely will be crucified worse if he does it again, more expectations than ever.

And why they need 10 months to pick a host is beyond me, it’s not like the host needs to be involved until a couple months before and they have writers that help, so why do they have to choose someone so far from the date.

  • ann

Please, no more. Tina and Amy would be perfect!

  • nes

    Why not.

  • D.Scott

Some of his jokes were a little over the top (but I guess that’s to be expected). His singing, however, was actually really good. It fit since the theme was music last year. I wonder what the theme will be for the Oscars next year, though.

I wish I had saved some of that “Circle” shite on my computer. That stiff was hilarious. I was trying to remember if she claimed to be a Wiccan, too, but I can’t remember. I remember we were laughing ourselves sick because the FFers claimed that Angie used voodoo to get Brad and there was Ticky’s hen chanting to sprites in the woods and “cleansing” peoples “auras” and a bunch of other weird BS. Plus there were a bunch of different kinds of circles she conducted – including the ones Ticky used to host once a week – the dreaded “Goddess Circle”. Yet the hens say it was the height of weirdness for Angie and her then husband to were a drop of each other’s blook in a locket. Pot meet kettle.

I forgot to say – you know why Ticky didn’t say hi to The Urinator. The last time he talked about her publicly he said all the wanted to do was sit in the kitchen and pet her dogs, the HE was young and liked to do stuff and she’s stuck in 1998. Plus she bugged the shite out of his friends when he dumped her and changed his cell phone number. She was calling his friends asking for the number and muttering that she needed clarification of why he dumped her because SHE NEEDED CLOSURE. Then she gave an interviewe babbling about needed closure and basiclaly confirmed the rumors. That’s why she’s comedy gold – she tells this caca on herself and I’m NOT supposed to ridicule her for it? I’d have to be a saint to NOT milk the cow when the udders are overflowing and the cow’s practically milking itself.

Even more on point, why hasn’t she ever thrown some work her father’s way? How about her brothers? At least one of them is in the business.
I’ll answer that – she did try. Back in the late ’90s\early ’00s they had a sitcom they were developing for John to star in. They pitched it to NBC but it never got to the pilot stage. Then John Aniston had some health problems and that was the last I heard of it. Didn’t he do a couple of Friends episodes, too?

The Oscars are generally one big snooze fest and Seth was kind of cheesy with very few funny moments. Although most if not all of the hosts have been pretty boring to watch.

Throw Ricky Gervais in there, although the Hollywood elite would never allow such a thing.

  • Ross

Seth MacFarlane should host again out of spite.

People need to stop saying that Tina Fey & Amy Poehler should host the Oscars since Tina has already said she is not going to do it. Besides, with all the three films Tina Fey has lined up, she wouldn’t have time to host the Oscars anyway.

Let’s face it, not very many people want to host the Oscars. I thought Seth did a good job and I thought he was funny, although not everyone get’s his humor.

  • ics

I hope it’s true and I hope he accepts!
This year’s Oscars ceremony was the funniest I have ever seen.
The guy is a true genius! People should be a bit more open minded!

  • Truth

    @Juicy Lucy:

People get his humor just fine. The problem is that he’s not funny.

  • Gigohead

Seth’s PR camp is really cheesy to campaign for Seth’s Oscar gig during a week of sheer infamy. This is NOT the time for these discussions.
