Barkhad Abdi is the Captain Now on Oscars 2014 Red Carpet

Barkhad Abdi is all smiles while hitting the red carpet at the 2014 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday (March 2) in Hollywood.

The 28-year-old actor is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in Captain Phillips, which just so happens to be his first movie ever.

Barkhad is going up against Dallas Buyers Club‘s Jared Leto, The Wolf of Wall Street‘s Jonah Hill, 12 Years a Slave‘s Michael Fassbender, and American Hustle‘s Bradley Cooper.

This weekend, a story surfaced that Barkhad is having financial troubles after not having an acting job since Captain Phillips.
