Blake Lively Gushes About Ryan Reynolds, Defends Powerful Women in 'Vogue' August 2014

Blake Lively is totally one with nature on the cover of Vogue magazine’s August 2014 issue.

Here’s what the 26-year-old actress, who is launching her own lifestyle website, had to share with the mag:

On the backlash she may receive about her lifestyle website: “I’m sure there will be plenty of people who will say horrible things. I’m sure this interview will be picked apart. But you can’t worry about it. There have been so many things written about me that are untrue and horrifying. I can’t even believe that my family has to read this stuff. You just have to do what makes you happy, because you’ll never get a unanimous vote. People like to gossip. They bond over it. They don’t bond over complimenting famous people. I’m always the first person to defend Gwyneth Paltrow. Or any woman in a position of power, like Martha Stewart or Oprah, who gets burned. Because they have paved the path for so many other women who are doing something they believe in.”

On how Martha Stewart saved her wedding: “Our wedding was becoming a disaster, and we didn’t know what to do, so we called Martha! She said, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.’ She sent her team down to save us. And then she called her friends who have a home in South Carolina and set us up at the most amazing getaway. This is the day of our wedding!”

On hubby Ryan Reynolds: “He’s a part of it because everything we do in life we do together. If I’m working on a movie, he helps me with my character; I do the same with him. Picking out a coffee table. What we’re going to eat. He’s a beautiful writer—he’s written a lot of stuff for us. And he’s got a great barometer and he knows me, so he will tell me if it’s not as good as it can be. He’s going to be a great father and leader and patriarch—he’s so meant to be all of those things. The fact that he lived so much before we got together, he’s the exact realized person that he should be. And so I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.”

    Boring and overrated.

  • wow

    Stunning! Love her!

  • GG

    Mediocrity wins….

  • claudia

She’s not great at acting but I must say that I really like her in thi excerpt. Good luck!

  • Lainey

Well girl, u cant pass on Wenstein casting couch, shag Di Caprio to get more famous and expect people not to say bad things about u. SIck and tired of these ‘celebs’ who complain about what they read in gossip mags or websites.
And what has she accomplished tobe featured on Vogue again? She must have a thing on Wintour.

  • archangelmichael

What a plain white b###h! @also why you on this thread too.

  • Wendy

So this claimed multitasking woman wasn’t even able to properly plan her own wedding alone?? wow…tons of women do plan their weddings and also work!

  • Jo

    She looks great!

For the haters hating. At least she’s an actress. Go hate on the Kardashian cover, who got it by accomplishing nothing and having a name for basically nothing. Thanks!

  • Maryanne

@Bee: You´re righ about that! I can see her appeal when she was on Gossip Girl, but what has she done since then? is walking the red carpet a job now? so… she went from being an actress to being a socialite? because after the massive failure of Green Lantern she hasn´t done much.

  • @Jo

Being an actress and being a successful and talented actress are two different things.

  • Lovely

    Gorgeous. Love the edit

  • @8

Nah gurl, they have to be all up in here. My advice – Don’t engage

  • Chace

The best of all her Vogue covers IMO.

  • #Jo

She also talks a lot about her film the Age of Adaline (with Ellen Burstyn whom I love). JJ just picked to the talking points that would get the most reaction!

  • lol

  • Betty

    Too much photoshop!

  • P

No surprise that Lainey and her minions would be having kittens over this.
Scrar Jo can make insensitive remarks about Israel but shes a fave.
Olivia Munn can beard or all and sundry and she’s sexy

  • swiftie

I stopped buying that magazine when they put Kim & Kanye on the cover. That was the last draw. Never again. Trash.

  • seriously?

Why the hell is she on vogue? What thespian performance of a masterpiece is she promoting? To the Blake stans don’t say “Age of Adeline” because you’re supposed to be talented before you deserve a vogue cover. Why does vogue put her on for literally no reason at all? Cause she’s Ryan’s wife and a fixture on the fashion scene? GTFO. don’t complain Blake when you’re not even talented enough to be in vogue in the first place, you’re basically asking to be scrutinized because you are no where near on par to be a part of any of these prestigious publications. She’s such a joke. This woman should thank her plastic surgeon, her family of actors, Leo dicaprio, and Reynolds for her getting this far in hollywood cause this girl deserves no merit. Leighton Meester is 1000x more talented and naturally beautiful than Miss Plastic Fantastic and has not gotten a vogue cover yet so that definitely shows how much of a fluke this girl really is. And to the Stan that wants to bring up kimye, kanye persuaded Anna FOREVER to let Kim have a vogue cover before his wish came true, this girl is handed a vogue cover without any persuasion at all, big difference.

  • swiftie

    I meant the last STRAW.

  • Blake

Lainey Gossip has great comment on her site about my vogue cover. Yes, I’m only marginally beautiful but it doesn’t matter because I’m tall, blond and beautiful therefore I deserve all these things without really working for it.

  • @19

Well said! Also, why I would want lifestyle tips from someone who wasn’t even able to plan her own wedding?

  • K

My real probelm with this is that she followed Lupita’s cover! Women of colour always have to achieve boatloads to end up on vogue but someone like Blake just gets it handed to her? that’s really unfair. There should be a standard for all women to get on vogue with no exceptions. You shouldn’t just be friends with someone and get to ride on that. There should be real criteria implemented so that it’s fair. Do you know how many actresses deserve to be on Vogue’s August issue more than Blake? I can think of ten at the top of my head.

  • Amy

Seriously? How much is Harvey paying for these covers???

Where is Kerry Washington’s cover? Viola Davis? Octavia Spencer?

  • K

It’s the age issue too. So shouldn’t it at least be a woman who’s in her 40s? There must have been a shortage on women 40+ who would be on the cover….so much hate. This is actually ridiculous

  • K

At least Scarlett has a movie coming out this summer, was in a highly admired academy nominated film this past year and is engaged and pregnant. I think there’s a lot more to talk about there

  • ace11

problem for her is that husband she picked

he looks like a total domineering, control freak

    Hopefully they don’t have kids

  • Rita

@K: I thought that Vogue is a (OK, the) fashion magazine. I take it now that you need to be Marie Curie to deserve to be in it. Even Lively’s detractors will admit that the clothes worn in this issue look fabulous on her. On Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightly, Carey Mulligan, etc. etc.? Naaah.

  • this is a joke

@K: exactly. Lupita truly deserved the September cover this year and we don’t know yet who could be an even better choice than lupita to get this years sept cover so I’m still baffled that she got the July cover when she deserves so much praise. And her vogue pictures were absolutely STUNNING, they were definitely September cover worthy and blows Blake out of the water in a multitude of ways, no comparison whatsoever. This girl is nowhere near vogue material so she should really keep her mouth shut.

  • K

Sure it’s a fashion magazine but the interview is the most important part in my opinion. It’s a full spread and I would like to hear from someone who’s 40+ for an age issue? is that too much to ask?

  • Amy

    @this is a joke:

Exactly. Why didn’t they give Lupita the September cover? I’ve lost all respect for Vogue. Anna Wintour needs to retire.

  • Amy

You need to be TALENTED to be on the cover of Vogue. Blake cannot act and has not been in any Oscar nominated movies.

  • K

Exactly. There’s only 12 issues a year! don’t waste all the wonderful interviews from talented actresses for someone who is starting a lifestyle site. Anyone can start a lifestyle site! it’s basically a glorified blog. Everyone writes a blog these days. I mean if they really want somene who’s starting a website, they could have chose Reese Witherspoon who’s starting a site and releasing an oscar bair movie this summer. They should make a plastic surgery issue, Blake can cover that one.

  • Amy

It’s pretty obvious that Harvey Weinstein is paying for these covers.

  • Lou

@ace11: LOOKS like a control freak? You must have a divinatory power, if you are able to assume that by looking at a photo.

  • garbage

    Vogue is trash!!!!

  • Leah

@K: Oh, so you think that if you are an award-recipient actor you are necessarily interesting or a role model? Yeah, I bet. Reese Witherspoon, Leo diCaprio and many others are intellectuals with profound philosophical views of life! Please… Some of the so-called “talented”, Oscar-winning actresses can’t even manage to fake a convincing smile.

  • She’s okay

I never found her to be this “high-class,unattainable,drop-dead gorgeous” blonde that she portrayed on gossip girl,I just think she is an average pretty girl when it comes to looks(kind of like Gwyneth Paltrow or Amber Heard). There are many other blondes who are super pretty or gorgeous but she’s not one of them. She does seem really nice and likeable though

  • K

Wow you need to have a drink, you sound a little tense.

When did I say any of that? I didn’t say oscar winners are role models. Are you saying Blake is role model? because that makes me laugh. I think Blake is boring and I don’t think she deserves an age issue of Vogue, why is that so hard to comprehend? She could cover something else and I wouldn’t care. I just think this magazine used to be about class and about the industry and it’s just a friend doing a friend a favour.

  • P

@Rita: I wouldn’t bother. Anytime some decide the ‘undeserving’ gets a Vogue cover. There is 100% the typical outrage, sl*t/face/body shaming, e.t.c.
In the case of Lupita there is racism and claims of PC pressure
It’ll be the same shit different month.

  • CUTE

Love the shoot and the setting. Very Elaine Irwin.

  • Just sayin’

I don’t understand why she gets so much hate… Yeah, she’s not the best at acting, but still she was on a show who was a huge hit.SHE MADE IT.And she’s not another Hudgens who are just calling paps everyday. Blake works and is a wife. I’m happy she’s doing so good. Get over your hate.

  • @40

Oh the outrage/anger is always funny.

Been going on since the days of Diane Vreeland just without the internet. ________________________________________________________

I do agree that this is the nicest of Blake’s Vogue covers

  • Hmm

@Just sayin’: You’re obviously just trolling for a reaction.
Funny how haters always set up question KNOWING the response they’ll invite

  • Just sayin’

@Hmm: I’m not her fan and I’m not her hater. I asked a question. I know why people love J.Lawrence and why people hate K. Kardashian. But what has Blake done to you, huh? She’s not annoying, she’s not awful and she’s not married to Zac Efron or Ian Somerhalder. Since she’s not the worst in Hollywood and not ruining delusional Zanessa/ Nian dream, I don’t get why everyone is hating on her.

  • Alaia

@Rita: Scarlett, Keira and Carey dress better than she does and they have talent, too.
