Brad Pitt to 'Details': 'I Don't Suck at Being a Dad'

Brad Pitt looks amazing in the open air on the cover of Details magazine’s November 2014 issue, on newsstands October 28.

Here’s what the 50-year-old Fury actor had to share with the mag:

On choosing roles: “I choose a role solely by how it speaks to me. And I sit in a fortunate seat where I can pull the trigger on the more difficult films. I was once talked into a film for ‘career maintenance.’ I have not made that mistake since.”

On his love of motorcycles: “I try to carve out time for a solo ride in every country I travel to, from the Highlands of Scotland to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco to the belly of India. I haven’t even come close to fulfilling my list—yet. . . . But, in the traffic of L.A. with a helmet on, I’m just another asshole on the road.”

On being a dad: “I’ve discovered I don’t suck at being a dad.”

FYI: Brad is wearing a Levi’s Vintage Clothing 1940′s reversible leather jacket in the first image below.

Brad Pitt to Toast Veterans at ‘Fury’ Washington Premiere
    .
Retired four-star general Colin Powell and former Army Chief of Staff George Casey will join the actor for Wednesday’s gala in Washington, D.C.
    .
It will certainly pose a logistical headache. But for the first time in the studio’s history, Sony is throwing a world premiere in Washington.
    .
On Oct. 15, the Newseum in D.C. will host a gala for the World War II film Fury, drawing elusive celebrities including the film’s star Brad Pitt and even harder red-carpet gets like retired four-star general Colin Powell and former Army Chief of Staff George Casey.
    .
“Security is certainly more rigorous [than for a New York or L.A. premiere],” says Sony marketing president Dwight Caines — himself the son of a veteran — who got goose bumps stepping into a Sherman tank during production.
    .
In recent years, Sony has held special screenings of Black Hawk Down, Zero Dark Thirty and Captain Phillips in the nation’s capital. But for its first full-blown premiere on the Delaware, the studio is displaying the kind of pageantry reserved for an inauguration. The U.S. Color Guard will present the flag, and the national anthem will be performed. Sharing space on the red carpet with Pitt, Sony chief Amy Pascal and production president Michael De Luca will be three World War II vets — all in their 90s — who served as advisors on the film and who will be escorted by members of the U.S. Old Guard. Soldiers who protect the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will participate as well.
    .
At the center of the red carpet will be a so-called Wall of Honor, where talent like the film’s director David Ayer (himself a Navy veteran) and guests will have the opportunity to write a personalized note to active military overseas. (Pitt plans to write a note thanking them for their service.)
    .
“This is the kind of movie that warranted it,” adds Caines. “At the script stage, we always thought D.C. might be an opportunity [for a premiere] because the movie as it was conceived really pays homage to the servicemen and -women who protect us. When we saw the movie, that idea just solidified.”

Brad Pitt is Dashing For Details Magazine November 2014 Cover

With “Fury” slated to hit theaters on Friday (October 17), Brad Pitt is poised to be back on top at the box office this fall.

The “Fight Club” hunk is the cover guy for the November 2014 issue of Details magazine and it sounds like he’s having a blast in life as of late.

Brad explained, “I’ve discovered I don’t suck at being a dad,” also noting that he loves to take his family on all kinds of traveling adventures.

“I will always be most comfortable in the outdoors. I grew up in the Ozarks — something resembling Mark Twain country. The woods, rivers, bluffs, lakes, and caves have all left an indelible mark on me.”

Pitt continued, “And I’m quite reverential when it comes to a tree. On my forearm, I had tattooed 94.9m (311.4ft) — the height of the largest sequoia.”

When he’s on his own, “I try to carve out time for a solo ride in every country I travel to, from the Highlands of Scotland to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco to the belly of India. I haven’t even come close to fulfilling my list — yet. But, in the traffic of L.A. with a helmet on, I’m just another a**hole on the road.”

“I first rode at age 7 on my cousin’s Honda Mini Trail 50. I tried to jump it and ran it into my grandmother’s car. He was severely pissed off. My first bike was a Kawi 150 enduro. I won it at age 12 in a contest for selling the most pecan log rolls door to door after school. I crashed it four weeks later.”

    http://www.tvweeklogieawards.com.au/news/articles/2014/10/brad-tells-%27my-conjugal-visits-with-ange%27/

Brad Pitt admits his separation from Angelina Jolie and their kids while filming his new drama Fury took its toll…

While Brad, 50, was in London shooting WW2 drama Fury, his new wife Angelina was on the opposite side of the world, shooting her WW2 drama Unbroken in Australia.

“We usually take turns, so one of us is with the kids and working behind the scenes,” he explains.

“But with this one, I’d have half the kids with me and she’d have some with her and we’d have to figure out ways to have conjugal visits, so it was extremely logistically challenging,” he laughs. “Put it this way, I don’t want to do it again.”

Fury stars Pitt as a platoon leader behind enemy lines in Germany, during the last months of the war. It’s brutal to watch in parts, but that’s what the producer and star wanted to portray.

“I think the film really deals with the trauma – that dent in the psyche because of the horrors and what we are asking of either side,” he explains.

“It’s amazing to me we could be slaughtering each other one year, and the next year we’re having a coffee or a beer[...] it really speaks to the absurdity of the situation.”

Back from their wedding and honeymoon, spent filming Angelina’s second directorial project By the Sea in Malta, Pitt says their oldest son Maddox, 13, worked as a PA (production assistant) on their film.

“He knew more about tanks than I did so I had to go to him when we first started just to understand what we were talking about,” Pitt laughs.

Regardless of their hectic schedules, the actor says the one ritual the family honours is a meal together at the end of the day.

“We always try to have dinner together, that’s our time to talk about the day and what everyone is feeling,” he says.

“We talk about everything, so some dinners are talking about why people die and what you want to get out of life, and other dinners, the kids are all singing Jimmy Fallon’s ‘balls in your mouth’ song, so it could be anything (laughs)!”

Poor jealous angeloner will never be as successful as her husband but she will talk highly of him in her interviews to make people like her. Maybe he married her to make up for stealing her Oscar thunder with fury and Selma. LMao she actually married him she has such low self esteem. Loser.

Maybe this will lead to her cheating on him. How wonderful that he has time for solo rides Angeloner dedicates her life to whatever Brad wants as she should. He is her only friend and the only person she talks to. She has nothing else. Lmao after unbroken flops she will be known as Brad pitts untalented wife and end up being a miserable stay at home mom. Not that she isn’t already miserable.
Tata team Pitt. Do the work while I’m gone and talk truthfully about how bad and over angeloners career is tanking thank you Brad Pitt for helping that. There’s so many other actress out there and hopefully he will be working with MANY of them soon. People want to work with Brad , nobody wants to work with Angeloner. She ruined the tourist directors and Johnny depps careers and now she will destroy Roger Deakins. The power of Jolie. Ajjaja

    .
I can’t easily forgive Clooney for completely blowing what should have been a great movie. The story of the stolen and recovered (and lost) art during and in the ore-war years is beyond fascinating and poignant. How do you turn that into a humdrum movie with wise cracking characters?
    .
To be fair, these 2 movies are not comparable. One is about art and one is about TANKS. Of course, one had George Cooney and one has BRAD PITT! Need I say more?
    .
Some religious reviewers have taken Fury down from 81% to 78%, imposing their 2014 morality on a mid-20th century war for the future of the planet, with a poorly written “review’ which barely discusses the movie except to note their disapprovng belief that the film “needs to justify the brutality of American soldiers casually killing captured German soldiers or . . . admir[es] . . . fundamentalist Christians in a tank crew who quote the Bible before doing “God’s work” of slaughtering the enemy with relish and pride since the Lord is on their side.”
    .
Well, thank goodness they weren’t in command back then.

Love the video that Details magaziner released for this cover. Swoon-able.

  • Claire

Bet the advised “career maintenance” film was Meet Joe Black. Just coz it’s such a by-the-numbers, romantic lead, nothing movie & totally something I can see advisors & stuiod people thinking was an excellent move for Pitt at the time, when it was really quite a crap movie when you look back. Especially compared to other movies he’d done before & since. I would’ve said Troy as a possible option too since that kind of sticks out as a bad choice for him (it’s too stereotypically “big heartthrob hunky” role imo) but then I think I can see perhaps what wouldv’e appealed to him if that film had worked out better.

  • mimihate

Their fans only care about their private life. He gets more posts on his private life rather than on his movies or charity. There’s something especial about him <3

  • Claire

Anyway, for the most part his choice in roles & films to be involved in (whether in lead role, supporting or behind the scenes) is pretty spot on in my opinion. Once he made a name for himself in the early 90s he made some pretty good choices, not always the usual/expected. He’s not my favourite actor in terms of acting skill but he has been involved in some of my favourite films & can only commend his chocies as to his career.

The problem with The Monuments Men is that it was trying to be O11 in WW2 and Clooney wrote it and it didn’t have Brad.

Unlike ring a ding wrong I won’t count my chickens before they hatch but if Fury makes more money than Monuments Men does that mean that the public thinks Brad>Clooney. After all Monuments Men has an Oscar winning cast and is based on a NY times best selling book. I mean the troll has been saying that everyone cares about Clooneys wedding and Brad is a has been so surely has been Brad isn’t going to beat Clooney right?
