Ryan Reynolds Confirms His & Blake Lively's Baby's Name!

Ryan Reynolds has finally confirmed the name of his and Blake Lively‘s baby girl – James Reynolds!

“It is Butternut Summersquash,” the 38-year-old actor joked during a Today Show appearance. “No, it’s out there! It’s out there. It’s James. Everyone knows and I told everyone who would listen that.”

“Before it was out there I didn’t want to be the first guy screaming it out to the media because as we know, little girls turn into teenage girls and little teenage girls sometimes scan through the archives and go, ‘Why did you do that?’” Ryan added.

WHAT DO YOU THINK of the name James Reynolds?

it’s none of the public’s business what celebrities name their kids and like most celeb kids this girl will end up in private/boarding school and one of her idiot self entitled parents will be asked to give Commencement at graduation as Joanne Woodward did in 1987 when her daughter Nell graduated from College Of The Atlantic in Bar Harbor Maine then Paul Newman did when she and their youngest daughter Claire Graduated Sara Lawrence college in upstate New York in 1990

  • JustThat

From ALL the girl names in the world they pick James ?!?!
No wonder they were hiding it for months ha

  • CLX

I like it. I grew up with a girl named Michael and I always thought it was a great name, and unique. And if she wants something more feminine, she can always go with Jamie.

  • DeeDee00

There are so many other people out there with a name that doesn’t actually match their gender. Glenn Close, Carroll OConnor, Leslie Nielsen, Marilyn Manson, Stacey Keach, Drew Barrymore, Evan Wood just to name a few.

  • honesty

I seriously don’t understand his explanation for not saying the name in the first place. Why would she grow up and be mad that he said her name? Wtf!?

  • DeeDee00

Honestly, I like James better than Wyatt & Maxwell…LOL

  • Lace

What is the matter with these mentally challenged celebrities? James? Let’s hope the poor child has a nice middle name she can use. Actually I do not believe Ryan. He is pulling our leg.

  • RocioBengochea

next they will have a boy and name him Sue.

  • Teni Eliza

James is cute for a girl. I don’t understand everyone’s despise for it. As someone pointed below, there are plenty of accomplished people with more masculine names, Blake even is a boys name. My cousin’s name is Jordan and she’s a girl. It’s sort of silly. It’s not like they named her Theodore Frankfurt or something… there are celebrities that named their kid Audioscience for crying out loud!

  • person

I don’t know why someone would name a girl James. That is a boys name. Kind of like a boy called Sue. What is the point of all this gender bending stuff. Ugh- gender is not a bad thing! There are so many nicer names to name a girl than James-

  • person

I agree. There are so many nicer names than James.

  • person

oh I know- naming a girl Maxwell is truly bad.

  • 23555belles

I wish I knew what all the speculation is about from the latest business poll “James” is the top name for company CEO’s I have never seen such nasty comment hurled about a people who have nothing to do with our lives I am fan and that is all this need to be so attached to them personal is just weird.

  • FrenchGirl

Happily that last week Reynolds didn’t want her name because he thought his daughter will kill him

  • 23555belles

it is traditionally a boy’s name. there is NO law regarding a name except maybe for royalty. Why not just say ” I would never name a daughter of mine “james” because for them it is there choice

  • 23555belles

    Michael Learned

  • GodBrandCigarettes

There’s gonna be a lot worse things she can look up other than her birth announcement……

  • AndJoshWasGood

All these celebrities choose unusual names thinking that it makes their child unique. It just makes them look like unoriginal try-hards. Those names will always make their child stick out even more when they’re growing up. For a child without famous parents it’s hard enough being ‘different’, but add the famous parents into the equation and you might as well start saving for therapy now.

  • Marie

I really like it. Many years ago I had a friend named Mary-James and I thought it was so cool.

  • AndJoshWasGood

    don’t forget Pilot Inspektor!

  • Guest

    James is an unusual name?

  • also…

Sorry but that’s just stupid to name a girl James. Blake isn’t a traditionally female name but it’s still better than James. That little girl will be confused and have a hard time as a child with that name among other kids and it’s just weird.

  • Tigerlilly

I don’t know if it’s really that bad. There are many such names: Taylor, Jo, Leo, Jordan, Nikki, Sam, Shiloh, Glenn, Marilyn, Drew, Evan, Alex, Jordan, Chris (and so on) … At least you can say the more female version Jamie instead of James. Btw isn’t the name Jamie for both genders, too? I don’t think that children with those names are all troubled persons^^

  • also…

All the names you listed are make names and far from gender neutral. James is way too traditionally male name for a girl. When they have a boy they will name him Elizabeth? Sorry but this is silly and doesn’t do any good for their daughter.
They should have kept it a secret…

  • Gloria Dean

wow, don’t like it but it is better than Gertrude!!!

  • Sarah

I wish people would research before passing judgment. James is Ryan’s father’s name. His father is dying of Parkinson’s. The name is clearly in honor of him. Stop being judgmental, assholes. They didn’t just open a baby book and say, hmm, let’s pick the weirdest name ever!

  • Delores Pauldo

Believe so .its a boy name.

  • Guest

    cute.

  • Guest

@Sara Henry . I see what you mean… Barbara `s blurb is really great, last thursday I bought a gorgeous Citroën DS from having made $5238 this past 4 weeks and even more than ten/k this past-month . without a doubt its the nicest-work I have ever done . I actually started six months/ago and pretty much immediately was bringin in more than $75… per/hr . why not look here

  • JustThat

better than Apple and Peaches and probably somewhere some Pancake too,but still why James ?! Its not really a name for both sexes
,its a boys name and thats it.

  • disqus_2u2D311nt0

    DUMB…..

  • ktoś

James is a boy’s name ! And it doesn’t suit a girl to be named james !!!!

  • elisa

james , wyatt, maxwell…. why is so wrong to put a feminine name to a girl?? i don’t see anybody calling their baby boy mary or jennifer so why would you do that to your kid. I still remember when i read that they named her violet and i thought ” finally a celebrity putting a normal cute name to their child, respect ” now i’m disappointed

  • kif

    Why?

  • kif

I think she’ll grow up more mad because they gave her a boy’s name and she WILL be teased about it.

  • Maire1

that’s why people have middle names

  • saphiry

Even if James is the name of Ryan’s father who is dying of Parkinson, I still think it’s a terrible idea to name a girl James. Most likely she will be bullied in school for her name and that’s an experience they could have easily avoided (bullying for the name at least). If they wanna honor Ryan’s dad they could have named her James as a second name, or chosen the gender-neutral name Jamie, or waited for the next baby to be a boy.

  • amariexo

That’s exactly what I was thinking! If they really wanted to use James it would have been a better middle name.

  • Ben_Dover

Carroll, Leslie, Courtney, Whitney, Stacey, etc were all originally male names. So your reference makes no sense. It has become trendy to name girls with boys names and with the names of streets, districts, cities, states. 20 years from now, boy/girl names such as Chelsea, Madison, Dallas, Travis, Dakota, etc will be considered antiquated, dated names. Stick with the classics. Spell them properly. Your child will appreciate it.

  • Ben_Dover

I completely agree. It all of this gender neutralization crud we’re fed by certain interest groups. As if naming a child James will prevent the girl from playing with Barbies and she’ll lean toward engineering with Legos.

  • Ben_Dover

Bet that’s not the birth name. It’s a stage name, no doubt…to stand out.

  • Benny Ehud

    Hollyweird

  • Shenanigans

i guess following the tradition of naming the girl a boys name….itll be a reynolds thing now. blake is a mans name, for those that dont know. its corny.

  • CeeKrativ

These two clowns don’t think things through. The poor baby will be mocked for years. Why didn’t they use it for a middle name? What’s their next daughter going to be called, “Fred”?

  • NRW

Coco needs a brother too named marshmallow. The name should have been Jamie or something feminine.

  • Ana

James? The first thing I thought of was when Jaime King went by James early in her career. Do they plan on following suit by giving her a nickname? Maxwell goes by Maxi, North goes by Nori and James would probably be called Jaime-why hassle your child with a ‘unusual’ (or stupid) name if you intend on calling them something else?

  • jupiter6

Well, Blake and Ryan have decided that James is a name that can be used for both sexes. She is, after all, their child.

  • zend

    Hayden Pannettiere
    Robin Wright
    Taylor Schilling
    Cameron Diaz
    Drew Barrymore
    Evan Rachel Wood
    Jordan Brewster

    all names are female.

Jaime King use the name James King at her early modelling career.

  • Lolitta

“She is, after all, their child.” – She’s not going to be a child forever, they should have taken that in consideration. She will be out there in the world someday when she’s old enough and unless she turns into a tranny that name on a female with be very funny & weird – everywhere she goes in the world. I feel truly sorry for her & all the little girls born to idiotic Hollywood parents that give their daughters names of male truck drivers. So sad.
