Star Trek's Alice Eve Sparks Huge Controversy, Calls Bruce Jenner's Transition 'Playing at Being a Woman'

Star Trek actress Alice Eve is in hot water after posting an Instagram photo which commented on Bruce Jenner‘s transition.

“Nope,” the 33-year-old actress began her caption (via Us Weekly). “If you were a woman no one would have heard of you because women can’t compete in the decathlon. You wouldn’t be a hero. You would be a frustrated young athlete who wasn’t given a chance. Until women are paid the same as men, then playing at being a ‘woman’ while retaining the benefits of being a man is unfair. Do you have a vagina? Are you paid less than men? Then, my friend, you are a woman.”

The photo sparked a ton of backlash from fans, who called her “blatantly transphobic” among other things. Alice has since deleted the photo.

It is a sexist comment. Just cause she has a nice pair doesn’t mean she can’t have a brain. I actually agree with Alice eve which is odd cause I never agree with celebs.

While though I kind of see her point, it’s problematic that she thinks a vagina is what defines a woman. What about all of the transgenders out there who can’t afford the $100 000 surgery? Sigh

  • k.

    How so?

  • VanityInsecurity

You can’t say anything nowadays w/out being labeled something. She’s entitled to her own damn opinion .. which is being taken out of context. its not transphobic or sexist. Its raising a point of feminism.

Kinda highlights the reasons I dislike all special interest groups. They’re really not interested in the greater good, just forwarding their own “group think” agenda.

I say GOOD FOR HER. And she is very right in so many aspect there. And at least another person who see this stunt in a very intelligent aspect. LOVE HER OR HATE HER SHE DOES HAVE A STRONG POINT.

I tried to convince this dog that I don’t feel like a person anymore, I am a dog. The dog barked in protest. The media got a hold of this and now they are labeling the poor Yorkie a “transdogphobe.”
The nonsense that goes on in the world, mainly the US… what in the hell happened to America? No wonder terrorist groups in the middle east are trying to keep the people in check, they are trying to avoid the crap we are dealing with every day– with men who think they are women and vice versa and women working lesser jobs but think they should get paid in the vicinity of men who are doing twice the labor. I need proof of women working the same exact position, just as qualified as a man but receiving less pay. I need proof that Alice Eve can attract as many people to theaters as… Chris Pine (who can’t sell, IMO, but more than she ever could.) Then she can demand the equal pay until then she needs to shut up right along with these pro-tranny groups.

Trans men and women make less than cis women so……what is her point

  • shellinaya

She has a good point. She should have left the comment up. And by the way, “transitioning” to be a woman does not make sense if you suddenly start wearing dresses and paint your nails and wear lipstick and heels all the time. That is not how most women dress. There seem to be men who pretend to be transgender and in fact they just want to wear fancy underwear and dresses and heels and lipstick. That is not what makes a person a woman. It’s insulting to women to see men doing this, and pretending this is what women do, to be honest. He wants to play dress up, let him play dress up, but don’t call that “transgender”. There is nothing about a woman’s gender that makes her put on lipstick and skirts. Being a woman is more about the fact that we can have babies and we aren’t as violent as men, are better communicators, are better writers, are better artists, etc., for starters. Women ROCK because they are better at some things than men are, and it has nothing to do with dresses and puffy lips.

Yikes. You had a good point with that fun little analogy, until you started claiming there’s no such thing as a pay gap. “I need proof of women working the same exact position, just as qualified as a man but receiving less pay” …? Have you, like, ever done a single search about it? It’s not some made up tall tale… Please, check out the link “k.” put here, and take a minute to educate yourself.

bruce said that the point of the show is to change the world. for a cisgendered person, this may not seem like much, but for transgendered people around the world, it will be life changing. Bruce is bringing an issue that has been swept under the carpet and treated with such a huge amount of bigotry, into the mainstream spotlight.

I am hoping that this show will make people more aware of transgender people and their struggles and hopefully make life, and transitioning easier for so many who face suicide and death.

Accusing people of being “phobic” is just hate speech couched in false moral superiority. She made a logical argument, partially supported by scientific fact. There was not an ounce of “phobia” in it.
