Timeless' Abigail Spencer Got Her Start Thanks to Kathie Lee Gifford!

Abigail Spencer steps out while making several talk show appearances on Monday morning (October 3) in New York City.

The 35-year-old actress, whose new NBC series Timeless premieres tonight, sat down for an interview on The Today Show that morning and talked with Kathie Lee Gifford about how she gave her a start in Hollywood.

Kathie Lee once dated Abigail‘s dad, the late surfing legend Yancy Spencer III. When the budding actress was searching for colleges in her teens, her dad called up his former love and asked if she could be in the audience at Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.

“You talked to me on the air!” Abigail recalled. “She was like, ‘World, meet Abigail Spencer!’”

Kathie Lee went on to call up the head of ABC Daytime Casting, who was watching the episode that morning, and got Abigail a role on All My Children.
