Maeve Kennedy McKean's Body Recovered After Canoeing Accident, Son's Body Still Missing

Maeve Kennedy McKean, the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy, died in a canoeing accident last week and her body has now been recovered.

McKean was canoeing near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland with her eight-year-old Gideon and their canoe was seen drifting away from shore. It was announced on Friday night (April 3) that both of them were presumed dead.

The search is now over for Maeve‘s body, though authorities will continue searching for Gideon‘s body on Tuesday.

Police recovered Maeve‘s body on Monday (April 6) at about 5:31pm, 2.5 miles away from the waterfront property where they were staying, according to People.

Maeve‘s husband David McKean says that the mother-son duo had “popped into a canoe” to fetch a ball that had fallen into the water. He said, “They just got farther out than they could handle and couldn’t get back in.”

We’re sending our continued condolences to the McKean family during this difficult time.
