Can Kanye West Really Run for President in 2020? He's Already At a Disadvantage in 6 States!

If Kanye West is actually serious about running for President in 2020, he’s already very behind.

The November 3 election is coming up very quick, and he won’t be running in either the Democrat or Republican parties because those slots are filled by Joe Biden and President Donald Trump. He could run as an Independent, but his chances are already dwindling.

“There’s a way to run as an outsider but it’s hard and expensive, and I think West, or anyone else, has missed their window of opportunity to have a meaningful impact,” Nathan Gonzales, editor of Inside Elections, said to Reuters.

The filing deadlines for Independents to register to get on the presidential election ballot has already passed in six states: Texas, North Carolina, New York, Maine, New Mexico and Indiana. That means Kanye‘s name would not be able to appear on ballots in those states.

In addition, to get on the ballot as an Independent in the remaining states, he would have to gather thousands and thousands of voter signatures before registration periods close in August and September.

For example, for Kanye‘s name to appear on the election ballot in California, he would have to gather 196,964 signatures by August 7, 2020. You can find out more at BallotPedia.
