Oscars 2021 Will Be In Person, Academy Confirms

The Academy is finding a way to host the 2021 Academy Awards in person next year.

If you don’t know, the Oscars were pushed from February 2021 until April 25, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Coronavirus health crisis has caused large gatherings to be halted as indoor, in person large events can become super-spreader events.

The Oscars, however, are going to find a way to make it happen.

“The Oscars in-person telecast will happen,” a rep from the Academy and ABC told Variety. Meanwhile, THR is claiming that no decision has been made on this topic at this time. This means the Oscars will not be held virtually via Zoom like the 2020 Emmys.

“The Academy has done a walkthrough of the Dolby recently to see all the multiple options,” an awards publicist added. The Dolby Theater can seat 3,400 people, but it’s unclear what restrictions will be in place at the time and how many people can safely be in the room at once.

Ahead of the Oscars are four other major, usually in-person and live film and TV awards shows: Golden Globes (February 28), Critics Choice (March 7), SAG (March 14) and BAFTAs (April 11 in the UK).

A vaccine is on the way and there has been some extremely positive news about it.
