A 'Game of Thrones' Broadway Play Is in the Works - Find Out Which Characters May Appear!

Game of Thrones is coming to Broadway.

George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series is being adapted into a dramatic stage show, per The Hollywood Reporter.

While there are a number of prequel projects that are currently in the works, the play will offer fans a chance to see some of their favorite characters again since the HBO series’ conclusion in 2019.

It will reportedly center on a huge moment in Westeros history, The Great Tourney at Harrenhal, a contest that took place 16 years before the events in Game of Thrones.

The play’s official description reads: “The play will for the first time take audiences deeper behind the scenes of a landmark event that previously was shrouded in mystery. Featuring many of the most iconic and well-known characters from the series, the production will boast a story centered around love, vengeance, madness and the dangers of dealing in prophecy, in the process revealing secrets and lies that have only been hinted at until now.”

There hasn’t been any confirmation as to which characters will appear in the play, but there are certain characters that seem likely to be included based on what happens in George R.R. Martin‘s books.

In the novels, the event is attended by Ned Stark (Sean Bean) and his sister Lyanna (Aisling Franciosi), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Lord Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy), Prince Rhaegar Targaryen (Wilf Scolding), Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal), Ser Barristan Selmy (Ian McElhinney) and many others.

Other characters that could potentially be included are Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) and Varys (Conleth Hill), though younger characters from the series like Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) were not yet born.

George R.R. Martin said in a statement, “The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace. Few in Westeros knew the carnage to come when highborn and smallfolk alike gathered at Harrenhal to watch the finest knights of the realm compete in a great tourney, during the Year of the False Spring. It is a tourney oft referred during HBO’s Game of Thrones, and in my novels, A Song of Ice & Fire … and now, at last, we can tell the whole story… on the stage.”

It was recently revealed that three new Game of Thrones spinoffs are in development at HBO. Find out all details here!
