With the final season of Downton Abbey upon us, we can’t help but wonder where Mary’s (Michelle Dockery) love life will take us this year.

It sounds like she’ll be busy taking care of business at the start of the season.

“She’s enjoying looking after the estate and making decisions, much to Violet’s (Maggie Smith) dislike,” Michelle told TVLine.com. “I don’t think Violet’s gotten used to her two granddaughters being working girls. Her bond with [son] George is strengthening. He’s her priority. So her romantic life is quiet in the beginning.”

Don’t worry though. Matthew Goode‘s character comes back into the picture!

“Henry Talbot comes back into her life. But it’s complicated, as it always is. It’s never plain sailing in her love life,” Michelle added.

Downton Abbey is set to begin airing its last season tonight (January 3) in the U.S. and the cast is dishing some dirt on what fans can expect.

“Just when I thought it was coming to an end and wrapping up for Mary, Julian [Fellowes, the creator] threw a cat among the pigeons,” Michelle Dockery told TVLine.com. “There is a really great arc. It’s something I wasn’t expecting, and it’s really clever what he does.”

Her co-star Laura Carmichael added, “It’s a really satisfying ending. It’s hard. It’s never going to be the way that you think it is. There’s going to be a lot of gasps and tears, but all in that classic Downton way!”

Maggie Smith opens up about the end of Downton Abbey in this rare new interview.

The 80-year-old actress has won multiple awards for her role as Lady Violet, Dowager Countess, including two Emmys and a Golden Globe.

When asked if she’s ever seen the show, Maggie told CBS News, “No. But they gave me the boxed set. And I’m going to do all sorts of things now, ’cause I’m free!”

She also revealed that she would often skip wearing a corset while filming.

“In actual fact, I have to say that I did cheat a bit. Because I promised that if I sat up, bolt upright, I made it look as though I were wearing corsets,” Maggie said. “Don’t tell anybody…I don’t want it to be put around. I was tortured every day.”

The final season of Downton Abbey premieres on Sunday, January 3 @ 9/8c on PBS Masterpiece.

The first trailer for the final season of Downton Abbey was just released.

The new season is set to debut on January 3, 2016 at 9PM EST on PBS. The trailer gives us a sneak peek at all of our favorite characters including Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael), Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), Mr. Carson (Jim Carter), and of course, Dowager Crawley (Maggie Smith), among others.

It was revealed earlier this year that this upcoming season would be the show’s last, and fans were devastated! Watch the trailer below for your first look at the end…

In attendance at the event were Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Lily James, Elizabeth McGovern, Allen Leech, Hugh Bonneville, Lesley Nicol, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Samantha Bond and Sophie McShera.

The day after, the Downton Abbey cast got dressed into their characters on set of the show to start filming the final scenes in London.
