'The Purge' to Become Television Series for USA & Syfy

Fans of the movie The Purge are going to love this news… the film franchise is becoming a television series!

James DeMonaco, the filmmaker who wrote and directed all three films in the franchise, will oversee the upcoming series, which is set to be produced by Blumhouse Television.

USA and Syfy will air the television version of The Purge, according to EW.

While no plot for the series has been announced, the films follow one day each year when all crime, including murder, becomes legal.

Zendaya Slams Fan Asking Which Celeb You'd Rape if 'The Purge' Was Real

Zendaya just shut down a fan who asked his followers which celebrity they would want to rape if the movie The Purge was real.

In the film franchise, nothing is illegal for one night every year in an effort to lower crime throughout the rest of the year.

“If the purge was real who y’all raping?” the fan tweeted along with pictures of Zendaya, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj.

“This is absolutely disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. Is this really what my generation thinks is ok?” Zendaya tweeted in response. “People are sick…”

When the fan seemed excited over Zendaya‘s reaction and said it was “lit” that she saw the tweet, she replied, “the only thing that’s lit is your immorality and inhumanity young man. I pray you find some sense.”

The first official trailer for The Purge: Election Year has just hit the web and it’s insanely scary!

Here’s a synopsis: It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

The film will hit theaters on Independence Day weekend.

'The Purge' Tops Weekend Box Office Over 'The Internship'

The Purge is first at this weekend’s box office with a whopping $36.4 million!

The horror flick, starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey, far surpassed its $20 million opening expectations, according to THR.

Fast & Furious 6 held strong in second with a $19.8 million gross in its third weekend.

Taking the number three spot was Now You See Me, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco, with $19.5 million.

Rounding out the top five were The Internship, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, and the animated film Epic, bringing in $18.1 million and $12.1 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Star Trek Into Darkness jumped the $200 million mark in North America, grossing $11.7 million in its fourth week, as Joss Whedon‘s Much Ado About Nothing opened to a limited release gross of $183,400.
