Tobey Maguire is a Crusader in the Courts

Tobey Maguire has landed the lead role in The Crusaders, a drama about the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education case.

The former Spiderman would play Jack Greenberg, an idealistic lawyer fresh out of law school, reports Variety. Tobey‘s character would be joined by NAACP Legal Defense Fund head and future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall to win a Supreme Court case that ruled segregation in American schools illegal.

In Brown v. Board of Ed., the courts declared that “separate educational facilities are inherently unequal,” and that established separate public schools for black and white students denied black children equal educational opportunities. The landmark case paved the way for integration and the civil rights movement.
