Emmy Awards Nominations: 21 Non-White Actors Nominated Across Acting Categories

Twenty-one persons of color were nominated in the acting categories for the 2016 Emmy Awards nominations.

This year, the Emmy has recognized Viola Davis, Rami Malek, Taraji P. Henson, Aziz Ansari, Tracee Ellis-Ross, Anthony Anderson, Andre Braugher, Keegan-Michael Key, Tituss Burgess, Niecy Nash, Idris Elba, Cuba Gooding Jr, Courtney B. Vance, Kerry Washington, Audra McDonald, Bokeem Woodbine, Sterling K. Brown, Regina King, Reg E. Cathey, Tracy Morgan, and Mahershala Ali.

The lack of diversity in Hollywood has been becoming a larger conversation due to the lack of people of color nominated in the past at award shows. To put in perspective, over the past two years at the Oscars, zero non-white actors were nominated in the acting categories.
