George Takei Announces His Congressional Campaign!

UPDATE: It was all an April Fools’ Day joke!

George Takei might be taking a leap into politics!

The 79-year-old former Star Trek actor took to Twitter early Saturday morning (April 1) to let fans know he’s running for congress.

“Well, the cat’s out of the bag it seems. Let’s do this! #Takei2018,” George wrote on his account.

He also included a link to a The Daily Buzz article that explained George and his husband Brad are moving to a small California town where he will launch his career.

“With what is going on now in the country, I couldn’t stand by any longer merely as a citizen. I knew I had to take a bigger stand. So that’s why I’m running for Congress. My hope is to challenge Davin Nunes for his seat in 2018,” George told the website.

George went on to say he wants minorities to be represented in Congress and to be a “champion for all people.”

He also formally ran for City Council in Los Angeles in 1973 and served on the board of directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit District.

While it appears that many people are excited about the news, some are questioning if the announcement is simply an April Fool’s Day prank!
