Disney to Start New Streaming Service, Netflix to Lose Content
Disney has some cool news, which will also be a bummer to Netflix subscribers.
The company will be launching its own Disney-branded streaming service in 2019, but all of the company’s content will eventually be pulled from Netflix.
The new platform will be the exclusive subscription-on-demand home for Disney’s theatrical slate starting with movies released in 2019, including Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, and the live-action The Lion King.
Disney-produced shows on Netflix like the Marvel franchises will continue to live on Netflix in the future. The company will be spending a “significant” amount to invest in exclusive content for the new streaming service.
Stock in Netflix dropped more than five percent after Disney announced the news.
