Lauv Introduces Himself to the World, Provides Proper Pronunciation to His Name (Exclusive)

Lauv is blowing up with his new song “I Like Me Better” and he’s opening up about the meaning behind his name and also the correct pronunciation in this new video, premiering exclusively on JustJared.com.

The 23-year-old singer, whose real name is Ari Staprans Leff, told us that he is “excited to set the record straight on how to pronounce my name and to share a bit of my story” with the release of the video!

“My mom’s side of the family is from a country called Latvia. I just remember looking up what the Latvian word for lion was, because Ari means lion and I’m a Leo,” he says in the video about the inspiration for his stage name. “And I found lauva. So I got rid of the A and it was Lauv. And it just felt right.”
