Lana Del Rey Opens Up About the Brighter Tone of Her New Record!
Lana Del Rey graces the cover of C Magazine‘s March 2018 issue, which is available now online and on newsstands on February 20.
Here’s what the 32-year-old “Get Free” singer had to say…
On living in California: “I’m very liberal and I always have been. I also really love the organic lifestyle and all the outdoor activities. I’m a real happy transplant.”
On mediating for 100 minutes—the same amount of time as her performances—before each show on tour: “I try and kind of balance out how much time I’m going to put out to sort of put that much time in. I mean, saying it out loud, the whole thing sounds kind of crazy, but I don’t think I would do it as much if I wasn’t doing arenas.”
On her latest record’s slightly brighter tone: “I’d say the last two years have been relatively peaceful. I think that’s kind of why my newer record has a little bit of a brighter tone to it, whereas before I was definitely working a lot and on the road 24/7. I’m still traveling a lot but I had a lot more to work through a couple years ago, I guess.”
On the song “Change” from Lust for Life, which addresses the fact that she was seeking change in her life—but didn’t know how to go about it: “It was just more like a small bubbling of wanting to turn things around aesthetically in my art and personally as well. I really like the idea that life imitates art and I’ve noticed that in my own work. I knew good things could follow if I put it out there that I was still trying to grow.”
