Billie Lourd Says 'American Horror Story' 'Saved My Life' After Mom Carrie Fisher's Death

Billie Lourd is very thankful to have Ryan Murphy in her life.

During a recent interview, the 26-year-old actress shared her gratitude for the TV producer for casting her in American Horror Story: Cult shortly after the death of her mom Carrie Fisher.

“I cannot thank Ryan enough. Honestly, it kind of saved my life,” Billie shared with Entertainment Tonight. “When Ryan offered me Cult, it was just a few months after my mom passed, and it honestly helped me process all of my emotions through these characters.”

Carrie died back in December 2016 after going into cardiac arrest. Her grandmother — Debbie Reynolds — died the following day from a stroke.

“Being able to cry for [my character] Winter helped me cry for myself,” Billie continued. “And it’s been really healing and cathartic in an amazing way…It is heavy. We spend like, 14 hours a day crying, and sometimes I go home and I will cry in my car for no reason, because it’s like peeing. Once you break the seal, you can’t stop.”
