Netflix Will Release These 10 Movies in Theaters Before They Start Streaming

Netflix is known for releasing all of its movies on the streaming service, but the company is trying out a new release strategy this fall.

The streamer plans on releasing 10 highly anticipated awards season movies in theaters weeks before they are available to stream.

Netflix has been unable to complete deals with major theaters like AMC and Regal to have their movies played there, so you likely will only see these movies in indie cinemas. Major theater chains require that studios wait 90 days after a film’s theatrical release date to make the film available to home streaming services.

In order to be eligible for awards consideration, movies need to have a minimum seven-day theatrical run in a commercial movie theater in Los Angeles County. There needs to be at least three screenings per day for paid admission.
