New York City Marathon 2020 Postponed Due to COVID-19

The 2020 New York Marathon, which draws runners from all over the world, has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus. The marathon usually takes place on the first Sunday in November.

“While the marathon is an iconic and beloved event in our city, I applaud New York Road Runners for putting the health and safety of both spectators and runners first,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said in his announcement. “We look forward to hosting the 50th running of the marathon in November of 2021.”

The marathon runners who already registered for the 2020 race this year will either get a refund for their fee, or guaranteed spot for the 2021, 2022, or 2023 marathon.

Marathons in Boston, Pittsburgh and Buffalo have also been cancelled due to COVID-19.
