Netflix Could Break a Huge Record at 2021 Oscars If the Nominations Go Their Way!

Movie buffs are thinking that Netflix could break a major record at the 2021 Academy Awards next year!

Currently, the movie studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer holds an 85 year old record at the Oscars. The record is for the most nominations scored by a studio in the Best Picture category. MGM earned give nominations in that category back in 1937 at the ninth Academy Awards. That record has not yet been broken…but could be in 2021.

This year, with the Coronavirus pandemic, the streaming service was able to still release an arsenal of films while other studios were prevented from releasing their movies in theaters.

Films that could earn nominations from Netflix include Mank, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Other Netflix films this year include Ryan Murphy‘s The Prom, Spike Lee‘s Da 5 Bloods, George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky, and more, Variety reports. We won’t know the awards season nominations for some time now, but many are still guessing!

Meanwhile, Netflix just announced their most-watched scripted limited series of all time!
